I am in need of a good walk thru gate that will fit a 42 inch opening. (It's like a hallway opening). I was hoping that you all would have some advice on them. I am tired of climbing over the gate I currently have. I am looking for a preseure mount gate only. I don't want to put holes in the walls. Please share your experiences. Thanks.

Hi. I am a child proofing specialist in Tampa, Fl. I would recommend the Kidco G15 center gateway. You will need to purchase 1 extension kit (G5.5)to cover the 42" space. The gate opens both ways and can remain open for times when it is more convenient. Another nice gate is the Tee Zed auto close, auto locking gate that is 39" high and fits spaces from 39" to 53". Over time, pressure gates can leave marks and indentations depending on how tight you put the gate on and the type and quality of the surface being used. The First Years gate is fine but eventually the child will be able to put enough pressure on the foot pedal to open it since it is so low to the ground. I purchased an all white metal gate with a nice walkthrough that has two safety mechanisms at Wal-Mart on SR 64 East.

We used The First Years gate with one extender in our hallway. It worked great. You use your foot to press down on a pedal to open it. Simple turn screws with rubber pads keep it secure to the wall. The screw require periodic tightening, but it was very effective and didn't hurt the wall.
How big of an opening is it for...that will have a lot to do on what you can use?
