Good Place to Sell Jewelry?

Hi there, ladies. I am looking to replace my wedding set with a 3 stone diamond ring. But before I do that, I would like to find a jeweler to buy my old set. It is a 1/2 carat total weight set. The stone from the engagement ring broke off about 8 months ago, the two bands have come apart (they have been soldered (sp?) together twice, and I have lost about 20 lbs recently and so my wedding band is way too big for me and will slide off. I am thinking for the money it would cost to fix it all, I can almost replace it. Plus, it is set in platinum so it doesn't keep its shape, so even if I fix it, all the same things will just happen again in a few years because platinum is so soft (don't get platinum rings. White gold is so much better!). So does anyone know of any jewelers that will buy jewelry at a good price? Does anyone have any recommendations of where I could go for a new ring that would give me a great deal? I've looked at the mall shops, but everything I have read says that mall stores are more expensive, but those are the only ones I know. Thanks for anything you can offer!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to all who responded to my request about jewelry stores. I contacted or went in to see many of the jewelers you all recommended, and ended up getting a great deal at Forever Diamonds in Mesa/Gilbert. Never would have known about them if it weren't for you Mamasourcers. They were even able to set my original stone in the ring, which saved some cash and allowed me to hang on to part of my original set. I couldn't be happier!

Try Christopher's Jewlers. They are next to the Maternity store and Big and Tall by Chandler Fashoin Mall (on the other side of the 101). I am not sure if they buy jewlery, but they can create anything you want. Maybe you could have it melted down and remade into something else. It is a local family owned business and they do amazing work. They offer different price ranges as well. Talk to Chris himself, his dad Rusty does the work at the shop.
FYI they are closed mondays.

I know of a place in Mesa called Jimmy's fine jewelry. (Don't be put off by the name, I know it sounds weird. ) The reason I recommend them is because they have an on site jeweler who is very talented. If your ring can be fixed he is the one to do it. He has done some fabulous platinum work for me and I strongly suggest you check them out. If a jeweler is not skilled at platinum work you will not have good results. The quality of the jewelers work is crucial to any jewelry you have but this is especially true with platinum. If it is made correctly it should last way longer than any gold pieces you have.( I have some platinum pieces that are over 100 years old..) If you decide to sell your ring instead of repair it they also do buy/ trade ins. The owner is Daryl and Randy is also a good person to talk to there. It is a family owned business and it is small but they have good quality and selection. Give them a try. I trust them with all my jewelry and have for many years. Good luck!! -Sara

There is a great jewelry store on Baseline and Stapley (Cooper)It in nexted to Kohls called Forever Diamonds. They are great and will buy jewelry and repair. I sold a watch to them and got a very fair price. They are super nice, I think it is family owned, there is a father daughter team. I highly recomend them, especially if you want to sell your old set. They will pay more than a pawn shop and it is not a scary place like some pawn shops can be. Good Luck

Pretty much a pawn shop is the only place to give you some money and it is very little. I sold some jewelry to one a few years back and got like $100 which was more than most. For your new ring check out the Shane Company in Scottsdale, it is worth the drive. They have all price ranges there and you can pick out your stones.

B.,

I love Langert's...My husband and I bought many pieces for myself and for gifts. My wedding ring setting was purchased there. I've even had them fix antique jewelry and create pieces for me.

They have loose diamonds and will order anything that you want...along with having unique pieces to see in the store. I haven't been in a few months, I know the Light rail has hurt business.

It doesn't look like much from the road, but the prices and quality are much better than the malls.

The also purchase gold (not sure about diamonds).

Hi B., not sure what you can do with your current ring, but we got a smokin' deal on my soon-to-be engagement ring. He is still making payments on it but he got it at a major discount and it's 2.25 cts. I have the phone number at home but it's called something like CR jewlers, or CV jewlers and it's in the Arizona Mills Mall. If you park by Ross and go in that main door, Ross is on the right, but you turn left and it's right there on the right hand side. good luck to you!!!

Hi B.- I don't know if Jared will buy your set but I, along with a few of my girl friends all got our engagements rings and finally wedding sets from Jared and that happened because the first girl had such a great experience they were recomended to another and then finally to me. We all had fabulous experiences and the prices along with the warranty/guarantee are great. They have a wonderful selection also. Good Luck.
