Good Place to Board Dogs for 10 Days

We have 2 dogs who are more like our children than our pets. We normally board them with our vet when we go out of town, but this is a 10 day stay and I dont want them there that long. They pretty much stay in a concrete holding area and they dont give them blankets or towels to lay on anymore because they chew them when they're bored. They walk them a few times throughout the day. Then on the weekends they are closed, so someone goes there to walk them I think 3 times a day. Our dogs are used to being let outside more than that and I feel bad leaving them somewhere like that.*** So... my question is where are other places that board dogs that have better conditions than these? We stopped by "JD Kennels Camp David for Dogs" in Royse City and their rates were pretty reasonable ($20 per dog per day) Have you ever brought your dogs here? Did you like it? Are there any places that are better? I would appreciate all input and opinions. Thank you! I live in Rockwall.

What can I do next?

C., I have two dogs and every veternarian I've ever had has told me that keeping them in their home environment is the best solution for their health and well-being. If you don't have a friend or neighbor who is willing to take care of them for you (and I'm assuming you don't since you wrote this post) you might want to consider a professional pet sitter. Good luck!

Is there not a responsible neighbor/friend that could stop by a couple of times a day? You could pay them half of what a kennel would charge for boarding both dogs. Only a thought.

Hi C.,
We live in Rockwall and take our 3 dogs to Ponderosa Pet Resort ###-###-####. It is about a 15 minute drive from my house. Our dogs have stayed there two times in the past month and other times too. The people who own Ponderosa are nice. If you like tell them that I highly recommended them to you.

JD Kennels is great! We've boarded our dog there for over 10 years -- he loves it and gets soooo excited every time he gets to go. Note that they usually book up well in advance for the holidays.

JD Kennels is the only place we use. We love it and the staff there is so nice. Our dog will be there for 5 days over Christmas.
