hi everyone--

next product question: my 2.9-year-old daughter loves going to the park regardless of temperature, and she will wear all the necessary winter gear, no problem. but we haven't found mittens/gloves that allow her to actually play at the playground. they are either too slippery/too thin (cheap knit ones) or warm/too bulky (her elbow lobster claws from lands end)-- neither allow her to use hands at all.

has anyone found great mittens/gloves that both keep hands warm and mobile? her hands are on the smaller side.

thanks!

ETA: besides REI which is very expensive, where are other places to buy thinsulate gloves? thanks!

What can I do next?

REI or Dicks Sporting goods have some GREAT winter gloves for kids and adults!!!

LL Bean and Lands end are good - but like you pointed out - some are too thick...

The Thinsulate ones are good - thin but keep hands warm and some are water proof!!!

My little guy is 2 months younger than your daughter, and what I like for the few times we are in the snow (we're in SoCal and go to Big Bear) are the Thinsulate ones as Cheryl recommended.

AND, check eBay. I found a wardrobe of mittens and gloves there for one of my granddaughters one year, from about 6 months of age to about 5, a box full, all for about $15! Everything was practically brand new, too : )

I encourage..push..cajole all of my daycare client parents to get Elbow mittens at the local stores..usually available at Fleet Farm here. They are fairly inexpensive ($10 a pair I think), stay on with the elbow feature, and after worn a few times they "loosen" up and my toddlers and young 2's and 3's seems able to pick up the sleds and climb my backyard playground equipment just fine!

I just love that they STAY ON!

Cheryl's suggestions are good, especially since you're in snow. I always go on the cheap side, even with regular ski trips to Colorado, because they're usually going to get lost!
