I was wondering if you can play golf when you are pregnant. I know it may sound like a strange question but I just started playing last summer and I'm wondering if it's more of an ackwardness issue than really a safety issue. If that makes any sense. :-)

What can I do next?

I golfed through my 7th month of pregnancy... and walked the course too! I had no problems, other than my swing being thrown off by my growing belly. :)

I have a friend who swears her golf game was never better than when she was 8 months pregnant. She says the belly helped her straighten out her swing!

I played golf up until I was 4 months pregnant with no problems. The ONLY reason I did not continue was because winter was here. As far as playing beyond 4 months, I'm not sure if there is a risk involved but I've never heard of anything like this. Good luck!

I would think it would be fine. Hard impact sports (broomball, hockey, football, etc.) are the only ones you should (according to my dr.) be concerned about. Activities are good for pregnancies. My doc says, "Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby!" (I actually played broomball 2 days a week for the first 6 weeks of my current pregnancy...unknowingly...and my Dr. said that it was fine to continue to play if I wanted, but I quit for peace of mind.)

My large concern of golf would be the heat of the day, so make sure you keep yourself cool in the MN Summer. :)
The major stretching from your swing could cause a little twitch of pain from the muscles stretching, but those should pass as you practice your swing and your body gets used to the motion.

Hi S.!

How bad do you want to play golf?

If you can have sex while your pregnant, you surely can play golf!

Just gotta find a comfy position! LOL!

My doctor's encouraged me to do as many activities that I could up until the baby was born. (I didn't have any health risks though either.)

Have fun!

Hi S.,

I've played golf for many years and I played golf during both my pregnancies without any problems. My first daughter was born towards the end of September and I played up until a couple of days before I gave birth. You will just need to adjust your swing towards the end of your pregnancy to make room for a big belly! It also helps to take a cart in the summer so you don't get to hot and tired and drink lots of water. Golf away!!
