Gift Idea for 65Th Birthday?

Hi Ladies,
My dad is turning 65 this month, and I am at a loss for what to get him for his birthday. I feel like it should be something momentous, and he doesn't like tsotchke-type things. He also travels a lot for work (mostly long trips overseas), so I thought something practical would be nice. For Christmas we got him a personalized planner that he loved. And for Mother's Day we are doing a family portrait; so those ideas have been covered. Any others? Thanks!

What can I do next?

We've started to give consumable gifts - tickets to an show or a sporting event, a membership to a favorite place. One gift idea that we use frequently, is homemade cards - I hade make an assortment of cards for birthdays, thankyou, sympathy, you name it - I also include stamps, a great pen, and address labels!

I've heard that people who travel alot like those Garmin or Tom-Tom GPS navigations systems. I have one, and I don't even travel....but it's WONDERFUL! I never have to look at a map or research directions. And, it's a fun electronical devise that all boys like.

How about giving him his life story in a book? It's a great way to tell him you love him and something that can be treasured by everyone for years. I'd be happy to tell you more if you are interested! http://www.frommemoriestobooks.com

Check out Usborne Books at http://www.ubah.com/g2687 for book ideas. I have had many people purchase our World War 1 or 2 books for fathers, etc. They have wonderful photos and make great gifts. Also, check out our language books, atlases and geography books. Since he travels, these may come in handy. They also have internet links, so you can find more info on a subject. Good luck!

The absolute best gift ever is a hard-bound storybook about his life. Visit www.celebrationstorybooks.com and you can see how cool these are. Our company is all about story - capturing the stories behind the photos. You could focus on his life story, or his work, or his relationship with the grandchildren - whatever suits him best. I am an independent consultant and can help you get it pulled together. Check out my website and e-mail me from there for more info. Celebrate those stories!

The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. Men often like cameras and could use a nice lense for their camera (it is pricy $1000-1500 for some) or just a new battery pack for the camera (about $50). He may even like an updated laptop computer (price varies) with the new Vista operating system. A useful feature is bluetooth on the laptop to communicate with his cell phone. Or a updated cell phone with the bluetooth feature. Have fun. The things you do with him are the real memories.

How about a dual time zone watch? Watches are fun to look at, functional and fun to collect. There are plenty ranges in price too. Skagen for something less expensive and Philip Stein for something higher end and really cool! Can you tell I sell watches? I think they are fascinating.

redenvelope.com has some really nice gifts for men. (can be monogrammed too)
