Gift for Teacher

You have a lot of great ideas already. :-) An idea came to mind about a basket, the kind that she can keep books or diapers in for the baby. Put the handmade blanket in there, (fleece is great for kids...when we were homeless someone made three for my kids and it kept them warm in the vehicle). Also, the gift card in the basket with maybe a mug and some hot chocolate and teas for her. I'm not sure how much money you can raise from the parents but a good book for any parent is a journal called I BELIEVE by Allan Stark. It allows the parent to start a personal journal for her children sharing the things she believes in from God to the best place to eat in town, favorite quotes and more.

Lovely idea- how lucky this teacher is to have such a thoughtful parent- my idea might be too time consuming but what about a mobile- you could buy those little polysterene spheres and do a couple of layers of papier mache and then get the kids to create a sphere in groups- with messages written on or just thier patterns or even their own faces as they depict them- done on paper and then pasted on.

Or get them to draw their own portraits- you then could take these to one of those shops ( i have seen them in shopping centres and in the UK lots of schools do tea towels with all the class portraits on which are very sweet)and they reduce them and put them onto anything you want- a sheet or a plate or some sort of wall hanging. When I was a teacher sometimes kids made me the most amazing things and it always meant more than any bought gift- which was always appreciated also- how many people get such lovely thanks for just doing their job.

You could also get the kids to just fill in a blank book- they each get a page to say what their advice and wisdom is for having a baby- I know adults sometimes do that but it might be sweet to see what they come up with.

My kids recently made me this amazing scrapbook and each had written out a page and put a photo in and it is so lovely- i will never part with it.But for a parent to do it- that is very kind of you!

I am a teacher and my recommendation is a gift card....teachers do not make a lot of $$ and there will be diapers and day care when she comes back to school and so many expenses. I believe that would be most appreciated. How thoughtful of you!

As a teacher myself, I can say that my most treasured "memories" are the notes I have from students and parents. I love the scrapbook/advice book ideas given.

I recommend a gift card to a store like Target or Walmart. Contact all the parents with a confidential letter (in each childs backpack) and ask for money for a group gift from the class. Give it a few days and send another letter to the parents that you have not heard from yet. Some people will not be able to give probably and others might give more. I think the teacher would enjoy picking out some things she needs instead of 28 little presents one from each student.
