I think I'd change his diet first.
Could be a dairy or gluten issue, if it happens all the time.
Have you tracked when he's telling you it hurts?

Beyond that, I think some plain old Bean-o or an antacid would do the trick. I don't think either of those are particularly dangerous for kids.

If this happens often, I agree, it is some sort of intolerance or sensitivity. Since you know about Gripe Water, I assume he was colicky/fussy as a baby? My son gets this way (very emotional) when eating dairy. There is a huge relationship between the digestive system and overall health. I would also give him probiotics to help the body heal itself.

Ok, you didn't mention he had been sick with a stomach virus. He is still getting over it. Give the probiotics.

do a food diary. write down what he is eating and what tummy symptoms he is having. most likely something in his diet is bothering him.

or.. it could be just a virus. some stomach bug going around causeing upset stomachs.

Um it takes several days to get over a stomach bug. Give it some time. He does not need To go to ER. I am sure, when you have a stomach bug, it takes you a few days to return to normal. He is no different. Feed bland foods.

Chewing gum stimulates the stomach to empty since it tells it there is food coming. Since there is no food, just the chewing, the stomach will empty and feel better.

I have been having the same problems with my 3 year old. I went to Vitamin World and got some probiotics and prebiotics in a white chocolate bear. These are great and I only got them a couple of days ago, but it is making a difference for sure. Also, so mylicon or simethicone is fine to use. Mylanta has it with an antacid I think, but double check. Its one I use for my little guy when he was a baby and for my 3 year old now. Really probiotics is a great way to go according to my pediatrician. But, also check into dairy since both of mine are allergic to the protien.

I know people are loathe to give soda to kids, but a little bit of ginger ale would probably help him burp up the gas and settle his belly.

good luck to you and yours,
