My DD is turning 2 in a few months and we want to plan a fun birthday for her. What are some fun places around the twin cities to do a kid friendly, not super expensive, birthday. Also ideas for themes would be great! Thanks!

I noticed that you mentioned "not super expensive" I also noticed that Abracodoodle is starting at $229. I guess for me that is a little pricy. You could look into Build A Bear at MOA their parties start at $10 per kid and they get to make their own bear to bring home. They do have a minimum of 6 kids. Website is http://www.buildabear.com/party/default.aspx?sc_hpan=tabs...
I am thinking about this for my son's 2nd birthday since I am trying to keep things pretty simple also and thinking that the bear could be their "goodie" and I will skip the goodie bags...

Abrakadoodle has great art parties for two year olds - they can either come to your home or you can do it in their St. Louis Park studio. www.abrakadoodle.com/mn01. good luck!

Hi Abbey.

Have you just thought about having a party at your home??? Young kids are REALLY easy to entertain for a couple hours. If the weather is nice you can even do some outdoor things.

For indoor activities: homemade play-doh (kitchen items work really well for play-doh toys), coloring sheets, everyone could make a birthday "crown"/ hat (contruction paper, foam, markers, stickers, etc.), dress up (if you have clothes), balloons--my kids LOVE balloons. They will play with them for an hour at a time sometimes. Fun, easy, and cheap.

For outdoor activities: blowing bubbles (flyswatters work for making bubbles), wading pool, sand box, writing with chalk, paint (just put the papers on the ground and give them the supplies--much less messy outdoors!)

You could still have a "theme" because you could just gear your activities towards that theme. If she likes Dora you could have a map and have 3 activities to do on the way to the CAKE..... or whatever. If it's princesses, you could have the kids COME in dress up clothes and you could have them make princess crowns and play with make-up. Then you could find some tiny dolls or something really girly to put in the goodie bags. By having a small party at home you free up some extra money for goodie bags and such.

If you don't want to do a big meal you could just make hot dog cabobs. Serve with some canned fruit and chips. Cake and punch (2 liter bottle lemon lime 7-up, 1 can frozen orange juice, 1 bottle-smaller size- Juice Juice BERRY flavor and presto!) The best punch I've ever tasted in my life!!!

I'm not sure about locations in your area. We are having our dd's 3rd bday at a Little Gym this year. Many gymnastic clubs, play centers and even some outdoor play retailers offer birthday parties.

Some places take care of activities and games for you so you wouldn't need a specific theme, otherwise take a cue from your dd. What does she like? Dora, Seseme Street, Little Einstein, Animals, A Favorite Color.....

Our dd's first bday was Rubber Duckies, 2nd: Dora 3rd All Star Gymnastics. I love the websites coolest-kid-birthday-parties.com, coolest-birthday-cakes.com for ideas!
