Foundation/Cover-Up Recommendation

I am looking for a good cover-up and/or foundation to help reduce the appearance of my acne redness and scars, which developed during my pregnancies. I'm currently using a cream-to-powder formula but find it is too translucent. I don't want anything too heavy or oily, as I still have a tendency to break out (I'm nursing my 5-month old so my hormones are still a little wacky). I've tried Bare Minerals but felt I looked too made-up. I do already have an Avon and Mary Kay rep, so no solicitations, please, just personal recommendations for products that have worked for you. Thank you!

I love, love, love the mineral powder from Mary Kay! I always had acne and tried to cover it with liquid foundation, since I've been using the mineral powder I hardly EVER have problems, and it covers so nicely.

Try the Avon Smooth Minerals concealer, not the foundation.

I use a 1/4" wide brush and dab some on my red marks/acne and just those few touch-ups make my whole complexion look good. I tend to wash my face in the morning and use only that concealer while I run my kiddo up to pre-school. Then I come home and work out and shower and put on my make up for the day. I am a 40+ old mom and I just don't like to go out without my acne covered. I also use it on my dark circles under the eye, but I tend to use too much there and it looks a little too made-up--but covered! If you don't look too close or if I'm wearing my glasses, it's fine.

have your MK rep work with you using the medium coverage foundation and a mineral powder foundation over it. Because both are layerable, you can use as little or as much of each. I have found with my oily, blemish-prone skin that this combination works best! Best of luck to you!

I like the Kirkland brand mineral make up. I was shocked. I was always a benefit gal but when I lost my job I needed to save money so I tried it and have been pleasantly surprised.

Good luck!

Believe it or not, I have had great luck with Burt's Bees for my sudden acne and redness - I use their clay mask nightly.

I like the finishing powder from Clinique on top of the Avon foundation.

I love the Mary Kay concealer. Put it on after you put your foundation on. It covers up my acne and stays covered all day =)

I second the response about working with your Mary Kay consultant to get the right coverage for you. Also, if you are not using the TimeWise skin care formulated for combo/oily skin I would highly recommend you do so.

MAC products are very good for coverage - I used them years ago when I was doing makeup for a photographer - probably a bit pricey but I find that with foundation you usually get what you pay for. They also have a full coverage (or used to) tin foundation that you can use to hide small spots so you don't have to use it all over your face to hide redness.

Since I have been an adult I have never used any foundation other than that made by Clinique. It is wonderful.

For the redness: Try a redness reducing lotion. Aveeno and Eucerin makes one.

I prefer the Sephora brand foundation.
Sephora has a wide selection of foundations and different brands. Clinque, Nars, etc.

If you have one near you, they now have them in JcPennys, take a trip in there. Don't be shy about asking for samples to try out for a few days.

I have trouble spots from time to time too. I use a foundation from Estee Lauder called Maximum Cover (camouflage makeup for face and body). It can be used as a foundation or just a concealer. It's not oily at all and it's very, very light weight. One tube of this stuff will last you forever! Hope this helps.

T.,
You may want to check out Shaklee's Minerelles line. They have pioneered the mineral makeup. It contains their patented skincare and will do wonders for the redness. If the foundation isn't enough, there is a concealer that goes with it. You can check it out at http:www.shaklee.net/healthforlife
If you would like to try it, I could send you a sample.

T.,
I have acne rosacea which is hard to cover. I have used Este Lauder's Maximum Cover for a very long time. It's a little expensive (around $25 for a tube) but lasts a really long time. I also have oily skin and have had no problems from this foundation. It may be too heavy for you but you can use it minimally. I would suggest going to the Este counter at Macy' or Dillard's and ask them to show you how it will look on your skin. I usually only have to buy twice a year and try to do it when they have their free gift campaigns and haven't bought a tube of lipstick or mascara in years so it is worth it to me. It is the only expensive makeup I buy. Everything else comes from Walgreens so I think I owe it to myself to be confident in how my skin looks.
Hope this helps.

I have been diagnosed with rosacea a couple of years ago. My dermatologist prescribed a facial wash that I was to use in the shower, a pill to take every morning 30 minutes before a meal and a gel to rub on directly on my face. Needless to say, I hated the facial wash, because my face never felt clean, the pills made me sick to my stomach and the gel was too expensive for my budget. All the while it never seemed to clear up my rosacea. I finally started using two Oil of Olay products. One is Oil of Olay moisturizer w/foundation built in and the other is Oil of Olay moisturizer w/A Touch of Sun in it. I started using this last summer and my rosacea has cleared up. I should also mention that I now have the best skin since high school! I have delt with acne since then and hated the way most mosturizers made my skin feel. I have really oily skin and couldn't fathom putting a moisturizer on it, thinking it would make it even oilier. Good Luck and I hope you find something that works.

I have found that although a bit on the pricey side compared to what I am used to spendingthat I can not live without L'oreal Bare Natural concealer, it is in a powder form and it covers up so well, you don't see any redness after using it, I also use the concealer under my eyes as I have dark purple under my eyes, it stays all day without me having to re-apply it. Shortly before Christmas I had a broken blood vessel on my face and it took 3 months to fade, I used it daily and it always covered it so well I was never embaressed. I just recently started using the L'oreal True Match Naturale gentle mineral make up foundation as well and I like it too, I have a naturally oily T-zone and this really makes my face to not be shiny, doesn't feel heavy at all and it wears well too. I hope you find something that works for you, as tough as it is, a lot of times trial and error are what it takes to find what works best for you.
Lots of luck

I went to Sephora and had them put the Bare Minerals make-up on me and I thought it looked very heavy. Playing with it at home though I was able to make it look very natural and know a lot of other people that use it and always think it looks great. I just put the colored powder on my blemishes, scars and discolored areas with the small brush that comes with the kit and then I use the regular brush to put the mineral veil all over. If you have spent the money on the kit I would play around with it before you pitch it. Good luck!

Try Double Wear foundation By Estee Lauder. It never broke me out and it last throughout the day. It covers a multitude of sins also. A little costly but well worth it!

if you're trying to cover up redness, then you need to neutralize it with a green-based foundation before applying your regular foundation.

As for foundation, I also have redness & have had great success with Physician's Formula & Almay products.

I third the Mary Kay thing. They have amazing concealer and foundation (traditional and mineral), and I have found nothing else that I like as much! They are consistently the number 1 cosmetics company, so I figure they must be doing something right! Good luck!

Wow I am like 2 years too late. Sorry. but this is what I have for all. I am a mom of 4 boys and in my late 40s. Believe me I have used alot of different cosmetics and what I have found is using a mk concealer brush along with a yellow concealer. The reason for the brush is that the brush lets you use less and it feels in places that you do not realize also it goes on even instead of thick. Than apply mk mineral powder. Also, before using your products try using mk foundation primer. You will have really good results. Try getting samples of these from your mk rep. So you can try before you buy . Also using a brush helps with bacteria. Good luck
