My daughter is almost a month and a half old. She started out on Similac...was having 5-7 loose stools a day. The Dr. switched her to soy formula, and she was still having like 5 loose watery stools a day. So, he switched her to Nutramigen....she isn't having but one or two stools a day now, but she is spitting up quite a bit now. I don't know is there actually anything else to use? Should I be concerned?

So What Happened?

I went and bought new bottles Playtex ventaire they help a little bit with the spit up. The stools are more formed, and only maybe 2 a day. I also tried maybe a teaspoon of rice cereal because they often use that for babys with reflux....so far I'm not sure if that is helping any, but she sure does like it, and she is taking off of a spoon! I didn't think she'd know what to do with a spoon yet, but she does. Thank you to everyone!

My daughter Natalie was doing the same thing when she was little... here is was what we tried. Started with Lipil, went to soy and she was having TERRIBLE stools and they moved us to Nutramigen as well. It took a little bit of time and we added a little bit of rice so she stopped spitting up. We also switched bottles (make sure the holes are not to big) we bought a bottle cleaner to make sure nothing was being left in them. Good luck!

I don't know what to say about the formula...I just remember a lot of stools when my little was that age. As far as the spitting up goes, though...try the Dr.Brown's bottle, those bottles are amazing...my baby never spit up and rarely got gasey. Good luck.

Hi B.,
Maybe she has reflux? I went through that with my son. We went through every formula on the shelf until finally there was nothing left but nutramigen (the most expensive one) and that seemed to help a little but if a baby has reflux theres nothing you can do but wait for them to grow out of it. Until then there will be a lot of spitting up. My son grew out of it after about 6 months. Good Luck:)

It's probably not too late to relactate. Contact an IBCLC or LLL and they can help you get started.
