Foley Bulb Catheter/acupuncture?

I just had my 3rd baby 6 weeks ago, and my first time being induced. I received the bulb catheter. It was not that bad at all, and it helped. I went from 0-10cm in like an hour believe or not. When you are induced the contractions do come on faster/stronger. I did not have any problems, either did my son from being induced. Good Luck!! I was late and had the Foley bulp catheter and it really didn't help to induce me. They had to give me petocin (not sure of the spelling) to induce labor and then eventually I had a c-section. I never dialated and the baby needed to come out. Don't let everyone scare you because listening to everyone's stories can certainly do that. I am sure your experience will be unique and hopefully a wonderful one. It might work for you just fine and everything will go smoothly. Hopefully you have a trust worthly doctor who can handle anything that comes your way. Good luck to you and i hope this helps.

I have not personally used acupuncture to induce labor, but a good friend of mine is an accupuncturist. Naturally inducing labor in this way is definitely possible and a good alternative to being medically induced.

Is there a medical reason to induce you? If not, and you don't want to be induced talk to your doctor! Or "forget" to show up at the hospital. Doctors are so quick to induce people these days it is terrible.

Without inductions/c-sections the average human pregnancy for the first baby is 41 weeks and 1 day. With some (very few) going past the 42 week mark. I have a friend who delivered a very healthy baby girl 17 days past her due date and baby only weighed 8lbs.

With an induction you are significantly more likely to have complications with your labor and end up with a c-section.

I'm not trying to scare you and I wouldn't say anything about it except that you said you were worried about being induced. Please don't take your doctors word as the gospel on this one. Its your body, your baby, and your labor.

Here's another suggestion... get a pedicure and have them massage around the ankle bones (reflexology spot that stimulates the uterus)... I'm sure it sounds like hocus pocus but when I was pregnant, I had a pedicure Friday morning and went into labor Sunday night after she stimulated/massaged mine.

I was induced with both my girls--the first one b/c my water broke and contractions did not start, the second I was overdue. I am not familiar with the catheter though, I did not have that in either case. I was given pitocin both times and it worked fine, no complications. I have no experience with labor without being induced so I cannot compare contractions but I was able to deliver both babies without an epidural or any other pain meds. That was my big reason for not wanting induction, I thought the pain would be too bad and the thought of an epidural terrifies me. But in my case I was still able to pretty much have the birth I wanted. I realize that I am probably in the minority on this but just wanted to let you know that it is possible. hi. i had the foley bulb with my first child. combined with pitocin, it broke my water and i dilated to a 4. however, after that, nothing happened. it was not painful at all. i did end up in a c section about 16 hours later which was not planned but since my body didn't want to give up the baby naturally, it was best. he ended up being 10 lbs 2 oz so i was actually glad that my body resisted 'natural' labor. good luck to you.

Hello! I was almost the exact same when I was at 40 weeks. At 41 weeks I received the foley at ~8 pm. I was about 3cm dilated when it fell out at around 1 am. I went into labor after that but only dilated to 4 cm (I got my epidural at 4 am). Then nothing..no progress except effacement... so c-section at 11:00 am the next day. Thank goodness though because she was 9 lbs 8 oz and did not even have a cone shape to her head.. ie- she was not coming out naturally on her own anytime soon. No to the acupuncture part but tried EVERYTHING else from the old wives tales...
