Flying While Pregnant - Fairfield,CA

Is it safe to fly at the end of your 10th week of pregnancy? Most things say it is safe during second trimester. Does anyone know? Or has anyone flown while in their first trimester?

What can I do next?

Perfectly safe. My friend is a flight attendant and she flew until her 3rd trimester, actually, her 8th month. Congratulations

I flew at 15 weeks pregnant (just into my 2nd trimester) and my cousin flew at 8 weeks with no problems. As long as everything is progressing well, and you OB/GYN or midwife has no objections, it should be fine.

I flew up until six months so there should be no problems. The elevation did make my nausea worse so keep the barf bag close - I threw up everytime I flew in my first trimester!

I flew to Hong Kong (and back) when I was 5 months pregnant, and everything was just fine (though maybe a bit uncomfortable). My understanding is that unless you have a high risk pregnancy, there is no problem with flying. I am aware that at least some airlines have a cut off where they do not want you on their airplane after a certain week of pregnancy (it's in the third trimester, check with your airline for more info).

HI R.,
I suppose as long as your pregnancy is uncomplicated and the doctor says it is OK you are good to fly. I flew on weekly business trips up until 4 weeks before my son was born. No problem.

Good luck,
N.

I believe the concern is when you are in your 3rd trimester. But it really is a question for your doctor.

I flew during my first trimester and had no problems. I think it's risky during the end of your third only because you have a chance of going into labor during the flight. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

I flew very early (less than 8 weeks) and continued having to fly for work into the beginning of my third trimester and never had any problems. You should speak with your own doctor. Your doctor can tell you of any special concerns there might be.

Hi R.,

My understanding is that there is nothing 'unsafe' about flying when pregnant (for the mom or baby). They simply restrict it in the third trimester in order to reduce the chances of a woman going into premature labor during the flight.

I flew during all three of my pregnancies with no ill-effect.
