I need to lose some weight and would like to work out at a gym or fitness center but it always costs so much. I am looking for a place that may fit my budget.

What can I do next?

Family Life Center off 87th Street just west of 435 is very affordable and they also offer daycare and classes at no additional cost.

I also suggest the Y if you don't make much money as it is based on your income. However, if it is more than $60/mo then I suggest Bally Fitness. The only thing about Bally is there is an 18 month contract while the Y is month to month. On the other hand, after 18 months, it is 6 months free and hten it drops to $50/mo which will be month to month.

I don't know exactly where you're located, but the Matt Ross Community Center is at Metcalf and approx. 80th. We paid ahead for the year, and I think it turned out to be about $43/ month for the whole family. That includes the kids swimming in the gorgeous, brand-new zero-entry with a huge water slide and hot tub pool. Also, there's a kid play area (like at McDonalds, but clean), nice big gyms, hang-out rooms. Sometimes when my husband and I just need a break and together time we put the kids in childcare (30 2-hour time slots for $20, I think) and go play pool in the game room.

Hi,

I agree with everyone on the Y. I love it. Also, if you have cable you might have a channel called FitnessTV. I love this channel. It has great program that are both cardio and weight classes. You can do several of them without any equipment at all, or you can buy a few weights and do even more classes.

I just tape the classes and do them when I have free time.

YMCA has finacial help you can apply for.

I really love the "Y" The locker rooms are always clean. And it's never too busy. My son loves going to the Child Watch area. He's six and they are good about keeping the older kids busy.

I found at some of the other gyms childwatch areas, they were designed for younger ones. He would get so bored.

I had lunch with a friend yesterday who, believe it or not, goes to the gym at First Baptist Church of Raytown on 350 Hwy. She said it only costs her $19 a month for the family plan. And she is not a member of the congregation there either (not required).

Hope this helps!

Try your local Y. They base your fees off your income so you may get a low rate.

S.,
I don't know where you live, but there is a gym out here in Blue Springs that is trying to get on its feet. It is on Woods Chapel off I-70 and is called Summit Fitness. I have seen the signs that say $20/month and no contract. I haven't had time to check it out myself, but it is the cheapest gym I've ever heard of. Or, maybe you could check out your community center - Legacy Park in Lee's Summit has a lot to do. I'm not sure what the cost is, but they are usuallly reasonable. Whatever you do, you should get a work out buddy to make it more fun and keep up your motivation.
Hope that helps!

Hi S.,

Just a suggestion, have you thought about getting an elliptical or an other machine that you might like? Some of them are inexpensive and they are worth your money.
I bought an elliptical 3 years ago and I still use it, it was less than $100. It is fun because I can excersise while watching TV. :)
Good Luck!
