Seeking a Gym That Provides Child Care

I am tired of making excuses for not working out - and I need to get back to the gym. I need to find a gym that provides child care. At night I would rather spend time with my husband that have him watch the baby while I go work out. So, I'd like to go during the day. I live in Englewood, and would be willing to drive 15 mins for a gym like this.

What can I do next?

H.,

My husband and I just joined the YMCA and they have GREAT child care while you work out. There is awesome fitness equipment and classes are offered...whatever you want to do for a VERY reasonable price. I TOTALLY recommend it for you. (We have a 3 yr old and 11 month old twins so it is VERY beneficial!)

The YMCA I work out does. They even take them at 6 weeks. It's at Colorado & Yale. They have a lot of fun group exercise classes. (If you join, try Body Pump.) It's awesome. I drive 20 minutes just to do the class. I think most of the Y's have child care. I believe 24 hour fitness does too.

Good luck!

the YMCA might also be a good choice... they are all different, so you might want to scope out the local to you. they usually have decent equipment and free childcare, and reasonable fees

also, when your baby is older... they have lots of parent & tot classes (swimming, tumbling, soccer, etc.). depends on the location, but at a good, family centered y, there are lots of ways to stay active with your kid.

Hi H.. I belong to the YMCA in Denver, off of Colorado and Yale and they have a child care. I've been going there since my 16 month old was 10 weeks old and we love it! People are great and Bella loves playing with the kids in the child care room. It's nice too b/c the cardio room is a step away from the child care and the weight area is around the corner. I know all of the workers and they are great with Bella. I would highly recommend the Y. Go there, tell them P. referred you, ask for a week free pass and see how you like it. It has everything you need to get a great work out and I would also higly recommend a spinning class (I've become obsessed with them! haha)! I credit that class to losing my baby weight! Let me know how it goes!! Good luck! Hopefully, I'll see you there =-)

p.S. I just saw that you can download a free pass for a week on their website: http://www.denverymca.org/

H. -
I went to Bally's for a while and then returned to Club USA. They have an amazing kids club - snacks, activities, crafts... and once your child is 5yrs old, they have a special area where just the kids can work out - with regular equiptment that is monitored as well as virtual skateboarding, rock wall climbing (it's very small!) and other activities. They also have a pool that you can take the kids into and play with them - whenever there aren't classes in it (which is most of the time)

I've tried 24 hour fitness and Bally's - the best place I've found for both myself and my children is Club USA.

Good luck! Oh - it's at Wadworth and Belleview - in the strip mall where Hacienda Colorado is.

Most rec. centers have childcare offered. Ironically, Englewood's doesn't. (or at least it didn't when I used to work out there several years ago.) The rec. centers in Littleton all offer it. Although you wouldn't get the district rate, I believe they tend to be less expensive than other gyms. They have several, depending on where you are in Englewood. The Buck Center is in old Littleton, off of Littleton Blvd. (Bowles) and a few blocks east of Santa Fe. If you are further east, they have the Family Sports Center off of Arapahoe Rd. just east of I-25. Good luck!

I don't know where you are in Englewood, but we really like the Lifetime Fitness club on 470 and Parker Road.

I know Ballys has child care, free up to the 3rd child and only 1 dollar per child per visit after that. They require a 3 year agreement though. Lady's fitness is cheaper and also provides child care.

Good luck on finding a gym. I enjoyed going to the gym and having a break from the kids. I got pregnant few months after joining the gym, so I didn't get as much use out of it as I wanted, for one reason or another.

Happy hunting

Hi H., the best workout I have found for the money is at Jazzercise. They have variety, tons of classes, and provide babysitting for $1 (yes, that's right, $1!!!!) at MOST classes (not on weekends). They have lots of incentives to get you going, prizes to win, etc... but best of all are their instructors and the upbeat music and moves. If you haven't tried them before, I think you would love the workouts! I'm sure that you would be able to find a location near you if you google Jazzercise and then locations. Good luck!

Hi H. - Englewood covers a lot of territory but you might consider Lifetime Fitness in Parker at C470 and Parker road. Even Englewood as far north as Cherry Hills is only 15 minutes away. There is a Ballys in Lakewood near SW plaza if you are on the west side but I'm not familiar with their childcare. I tried a couple of different clubs and truthfully my little guy hated the ones where it was just one lady in a small room

LTF is a gorgeous club with terrific amenities and the child care center is really good - security is very good as well.

As one mother wrote, Englewood Recreation Center unfortunately does not have childsitting (I happen to work for the Recreation Dept.) However, the Buck Community Center on Littleton Blvd. does (Buck is part of South Suburban Parks and Recreation). They have a lot of daytime fitness classes and a great fitness room. Plus, a fun swimming pool for kids. SSPR also has the Goodson Rec. Center on University Blvd.

Hello, I felt the same way about not wanting my working out to cut into family time!

I found that Jazzercise is a wonderful option for me. They are in multiple places, check out their website. I go to a class that meets just off c470 and broadway. They have childcare for almost all their classes.

I especially liked the fact that it was the best price of anything in the area and there is no contract to sign. I pay $36 a month and then buy a punch card ($1.25 per class) for child care.

Good luck!

Would you go to exercise classes that let you bring your child to class WITH you, expecially if the classes offered a great workout and allowed you to spend time with your kids without feeling the guilt? If so, you might want to check out www.strollerfit.com and see if there are classes near you. I know they offer them all over town. There are three class formats to choose from and all of them give you a great workout.

Good Luck!
