First Birthday in South Bend, IN.

My son's first birthday is at the end of the month. My older son had his first birthday at Hooters :), some family members didn't show up because of that...the rest had fun(we choose that location mainly because my dad took him there to eat out so much he((my son)) knew the waitress' well!)! We would love to just have everyone over to our home, but it's too small. We usually have about 25-30 people. We do the park for summer birthdays and it's great, but I'm afraid it may too cold or rainy by the end of the month. I've looked into the zoo and some other places, but can anyone give me a fun, cheap idea for a place to host my one year old's birthday in the South Bend/Mishawaka IN. area?? Thanks so much!!

What can I do next?

Hi,

I had my daughter's 2nd birthday party at the South Bend Chocolate Cafe in downtown SB. It went very well. It was $10 per person with a 10 person minimum. This price included birthday cupcakes, drinks, and a treat bag for each child. There were actually enough cupcakes for the parents to enjoy a treat as well. They have a private room for the party and then we also had the kids play in the playroom with the chocolate tree. I thought we got a good value for our money. They have additional options you can add on as well.

Hi L.,

I don't know how much you want to spend or if your son likes the water but the Niles YMCA lets you rent out the pool and multi-purpose room on Sat. from 2-4 (for 25 people) it is $65 + $50 refundable deposit.

What about Chick-fil-a?

I don't know how much Kidzoodle's birthday parties are? They are in the front of SoccerZone and I think they should be back up and running at the end of the month (from being down over the summer-something about heat makes them need to deflate over the summer).

A friend is having having her son's birthday at Barnaby's (pizza) and then going over to Strikes n Spares (but not doing the party package) but just paying for 2-3 lanes.

Is your son into planes? I thought I saw something that made me thing the airport might let you do something (upstairs). Then you could watch the planes land and take off.

I would think the South Bend Choc. Cafe would do birthday parties.

What about renting out a pavilion from the South Bend Park & Rec department (www.sbpark.org) and then you could do your own birthday party and then maybe take a hike or go to the park that might be connected to it.

I don't know how much Monkey Business in Toscana Park in Granger might be, we went to a party there and that was fun.

We rented out Galaxy Roller rink in Niles for a birthday party and that was fun, you get the whole rink to yourself.

That is all I can think of at the moment, but I'll keep thinking. :-)

The South Bend Chocolate Cafe in downtown SB has the "Rockne Room" available for around $100.00-that includes cake and it's a fun, family friendly environment! Nothing wrong w/ Hooters, but I can see some family members disapproving! :)

Hi L.. =)

I live in Mishawaka, too, and I have been wracking my brain as to where I will have my son's 2nd birthday party in December. Chuck E Cheese is always an "obvious" option, but it really gets pricey ~ and personally, my little guy doesn't care for super loud places with lots of people. Another option would be Mega Play in Town and Country Shopping Center. They do have a cute and fun area for little ones to play in, as well as lazer tag, miniature golf, and video games for the older kids. I had my older son's birthday there a few years ago, and it was kind of expensive (about $100) but he was older and we paid for all of the kids to do the lazer tag, mini golf, and tokens.... plus that included pizza, pop, and birthday cake for everyone. (and I think a picture of the party if I remember right) I'm sure you can customize your party package to suit your little guy's needs, and it wouldn't have to be nearly as expensive.

I'll be checking back to see if there are any better ideas that I might be able to use as well! lol :o)

Good luck to you!
