Finding Clients for In-Home Daycare

I know many of you run or use in-home childcare, and I am looking for suggestions for finding a child to take care of. I have a 14 month old son, and since I stay home and we need more money, I would like to find one other 12-15 month old child to care for. How should I advertise? Does word of mouth work best? Does anyone have recommendations about caring for the child of a friend or acquaintance versus a stranger's child? Any help would be much appreciated--I am ready to start Feb. 1. Thanks!

hi my name is W. first i would make up a policy no matter if it is a friend or a stranger. you want to include hours, price, food, sick policy and a form that they fill out if you are gonna leave during the day and have their permission. as for advertising put one on this site and you could find a place that makes signs. i got mine from frisbie sign you should find it in the phone book or you could go there its kind of on the corner of 23rd steet and crysler. word of mouth, if you have an older child in school, or an add in the paper also if you go to craigslist.com you can post a free ad there. hope this helps you W. home child care provider and mother of 4 children

Hi A., I'm C., an RN for 35 yrs, working with kids and I teach The Ultimate SUPERSITTER Class around the area for years. Besides childproofing your home, taking a basic CPR & First Aid Class that includes choking would add peace of mind to parent. Accidents increase when your taking care of kids all day everyday. Also, having a schedule of activities thru out the day, keeps kids happy & YOU sane!! Who knows, this could become a business for you!! I'm developing a Junior Nanny Course (16yrs. old & Up) and I get alot of feedback from parents. Good Luck & let me know how it goes, C.

The Kansas City Star online you can advertise for free. Definitely have a written policy that the parent signs ahead of time. If you would like a copy of mine for reference I would be glad to email you it. Set policies and make sure the parent understands them. By all means do not break your policy once. If you do, especially if it is someone you know, they will ask you to break it again. You must remember that this is a business you are running.

Keep in mind that you are bringing this child into your home. Interview with the parent and be comfortable with them as well as the child. It usually takes awhile at first. Hang in there, it's a great way to spend your days!

Hi, I have run an in-home daycare for almost 20 years. If you are licensed in Kansas call the daycare connection. Also the daycareresource.com is where I advertise. They have alot of resources for you and you can advertise for your area. It is $25.00 per year and I get alot of calls from there. Also craigslist.com could be a good place.
