About a year ago, I remember seeing aps come up on friends profile saying "see who's been checking out your profile by clicking here" Does anyone know if that is a legitement application or is it a virus type thing that automatically gets posted to other friends who click on it if you do?

What can I do next?

Thanks everyone! I knew some aps were like that, if you clicked on them they automaticallty would post to friends pages, but wasn't sure about that particular one. I will be sure not to click on any :)

i will add my vote to "scam" DON'T click. also, don't click the ones that say, "someone answered a question about you!" my MIL mistakenly did this with her phone, and a mysterious charge of $20 came on her next bill - even though she told it no on all the questions.

Get a Mac and you will NEVER get a virus. Bought my first one 25 years ago and still cannot understand why anyone would want a PC. Simple to operate and extremely resistant to viruses.
Remember you get what you pay for.

Facebook Security is a great page to "friend". It is the official security page. They have stated outright that any of those "see who views your page" are not legit and compromise your system and often carry a virus.
Please don't fall for it!

Never, ever click a link on FB. Either a scam or virus.

To the Mac User... I have a PC and I am perfectly happy with it. I am glad you like your mac. My daughter is in the market for another laptop and hubby offered her a mac......she said "heck no..that is not compatable with anything we do at school and nothing but trouble for the students who have them"

We are high end Dell PC users and yes we got what we paid for... great machine, no viruses, and very pleased. We'll buy Dell's again.

I clicked on one of those and it was a virus that posted on all of my friends pages. Ever since them I google anything that I want to check out. Most of the time it's a virus or spam.

It will cause a virus, don't click on it! The same with the one about a "girl who killed herself after her dad posted this"

DO NOT click that!!! it's a scam...and it can be just a horrible time!!!

If you play any of the games and you get a request that sounds too good to be true - it usually is...

IF you have to "log in" to facebook when you click on a link - CLOSE IT!! Clear you cookies and your cache and change your password.

IF someone pulls up a chat with you - even in other chats other than FB - with a link....don't click on it from the chat - copy and paste it -doesn't matter if it's from your mom and dad - stuff happens....people click without paying attention or even thinking sometimes - well I got it from YOU....and I trust YOU!!! Don't assume anything....

GOOD LUCK!

It's a scam.

I don't understand why anyone would even check these out. How did you find your friends when you first started FB? You put in names and checked out peoples profiles hunting for old friends or relatives. This is how the site works.

Let's say I want to find my friend Mary Jones then I type in "Mary Jones" in the search box and 500 come up. I can refine it to her home town or work place, any number of options, but I still have to go through a bunch of profiles hunting for her.

These click and find links are always a scam and should not be followed. If you have your privacy settings set for only showing your name and minimal information then anyone can find you by your name but not see any private information. If you want more information to show then you can click those particular items on the account and on the privacy pages.

My own "rule" for facebook is...never download anything that requires that you give FB access to your personal information...why would you hand a key to someone you don't know???

I remember checking into that, and other apps my friends sent or posted, and you need to "like" it before you even know what it is, as well as provide info. Anything that asks for more information to give you what you want puts you at risk for viruses or even identity theft.
