EXTREME Pelvic Pain During Pregnancy

I am 36 weeks (ish) pregnant, and for the past 3 weeks I have been having absolutely unbearable shooting pain in my pelvic area. The pain is so bad it literally makes me yell out. I am no wimp to pain, I have birthed a child with no medication whatsoever, so I can handle pain! The pain is very sharp and very sudden, and literally brings me to my knees. It has gotten to the point I can no longer walk on my own. The pain is in the side areas of my pelvic region, like on the side of my pubic bone, if that makes sense. I have mentioned it to my OBGYN and he just sorta smiles and gives me the "well, you are pregnant" look. I have to believe for the life of me that not being able to walk for the last 7 weeks of your pregnancy is not normal!

To add - I have been in and out of the hospital with preterm labor since 23 weeks. I have made it this far! But I do know that at 34 weeks, I was 4 cm dilated and 70% effaced. I have been having contractions on and off since week 23. So I am wondering if this pain is "labor" pain, or just typical pain associated with pregnancy hormones and ligaments. Anyone else ever experienced pain this severe and disabling? I really want to hold on to hope that I won't go into labor anytime soon, but this pain is making me think otherwise!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have tried support bands - two very good ones - they didn't really help in this area, but did in others. But, I am horizontal 80% of the day on bed rest and I don't wear it unless I am up.

look up Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction and see if what you read there is what you are experiencing.

do you normally have loose or hyper-extending joints? I do and with my second and now third the tailbone and SPD pains are much worse. Have you tried a support belt or belly bra to take some of the pressure off of your pubic bones?

Yes I know your pain! with my last two pregnancies I have had the horrible round ligament/pelvic pain and it really is that awful. And there really isn't much the doc's can do. You can put heat on it which helps while you are laying down but it doesn't ever take the pain away (at least not for me) I was told by my doc that if it really gets too bad to walk that hey could give me a wheel chair and a temp. handicap sign for my car. But I just dealt with the pain and cried a lot at night :( At least for you your at the end of your pregnancy....with mine I got it around 7 months and it never let up for the rest of the pregnancy. It's horrible I know. So sorry you have this pain too.

Unfortunately with my round ligament pain, the longer I sat or was lying down, the worse it was....especially if I had to pee or got up too fast. I am currently prego with #3. Good luck and know it won't be much longer and then it should resolve itself after the birth!

Best wishes!

yes - I had this, round ligament pain, very very breathtaking, made me dizzy.
I also had pubis symphisis dysfunction, so I had a double whammy - I sat down a lot and used a belly band, which helped A LOT.
