I need some clarification. A classmate of my daughter's has an egg allergy. Does this mean that baked goods made with egg are out of the question? Brownies, cupcakes etc?

I really need to speak to the chid's mother but thought you all could shed some light on this for me.

So What Happened?

Turns out the child is allergic to scrambled eggs only...not much of a concern with b-day treats. I appreciate everyone's replies to help me understand to world of egg allergies.

Definitely speak to the mother for clarification. I am allergic to eggs, but can eat them in baked goods or if they are very, very cooked. I just have to avoid them if they are not cooked very thoroughly. I know many of those with the allergy cannot have them at all in anything, so you do have to ask to be 100% sure.

My son has an egg allergy. Baked goods with egg would be out of the question for us. I do however know some children that are able to tolerate egg in baked goods. You really need to speak to the mother of the child. Each situation is unique.

My daughter has an egg allergy. She does fine with eggs in baked goods(except angel food cake) and ice cream. This is going to vary with each child as is the severity of their reaction. The classmate may only be allergic to whites or yolks which can make things a bit easier for baking. Otherwise, Rice Krispie treats should work(though I think some marshmallows can be made with egg).

See what the mother says, though! She should be able to give you alternatives, too!

My brother had an egg allergy, to this day he still doesn't do well with them. When he was a kid my Mom used to make baked goods for him with an egg replacer....not the liquid fake eggs that they make for dieters, it was a powder in a box and it was called exactly that...egg replacer.
