Best gift ever!
I have noticed the price of the Dysons going down and have seen them on Clearance from time to time. Perhaps you can get a deal on one.

When it came time to get a new vacuum, I really wanted a Dyson. But my husband said that there was one they used in his office, and he wasn't very impressed with it. I've also talked to other people who say that they have one and it just doesn't work very well. We ended up going with a Hoover platinum bagless upright, and so far it's been amazing. There's a 6 year warranty on it with a guarantee of no loss of suction.

I have a Dyson, this is my second. (We lost the first in a house fire) It's been so long since I've used a "cheap" vacuum, I honestly forget what a difference it is to use the Dyson. Other vacuums feel like I am just running a broom over my carpet. I really enjoy ours.. but if I was buying another I would watch the deals. Often you can get last years model, super cheap. I've seen them refurbished on Woot.com, for example, for $199. Just today (it's already ended) there was a deal of the day on Ebay on a Dyson for $280... authorized retailer, 5 year warranty. So that's my recommendation - get a Dyson, but get it for half price ;)

There are other excellent brands out there. My mother has a Sebo. They take bags, and are more expensive then a Dyson.

I've just killed my second Dyson in 4 years. It's not dead dead. I have to take it into the shop, and have the part replaced. Dyson may do well w/ pet hair. But, it cannot hack human hair. Four of us girls in this house have long hair. I've never seen a beater bar get so bound up as the Dysons do. And, instead of stretching out, or breaking a belt, on a Dyson, it is one peice, and takes out a clutch mechanism. So, a $70+ repair bill instead of a $5 belt. I WILL NOT buy a 3rd.

I have a Dyson and like it. I got it on a sale before Thanksgiving for over $120 off so the cost wasn't near as bad. I had used one at a friends house and it worked well.

I had a VacMan, similar to a Rainbow before the Dyson. I really liked it because it doesn't use any filters (just the water) but my kids couldn't do well with puting the water in and setting it up. It was great though for accidents like throw up etc because I could suck it up with that, then suck up a quart of clean water to clean out the hose. I'd dump the water and do it again.

The vacman is like a canister vacuum and the motor head could go almost anywhere, in any direction, and really low to the floor. I really miss that in the Dyson. I have to get a straight shot or move chairs to get to crumbs and I can't get under beds without using the hose instead of the brush head.

I really do like the Dyson however. We have allergies and I love the fact that I don't have to buy HEPA filters every few months or so. The Dyson's filter is washable.

We have the purple Dyson with all the attachments. We got it for around $379 at BestBuy in November around the Black Friday sales. I'd been thinking of getting one for a long time but wouldn't spend the money. When I saw that....we went for it! Personally I do not use the larger attachments. I use the ones that attach to the handle. The mini head for stairs is obnoxious to me. The air flow makes it turn, so when you put it on carpet the friction can stop it from spinning so the hand tools work better for me on my stairs. Short carpet in a car might be better for that. My friend had the Yellow Dyson without all the attachments. If you find a sale on that one you should be good to get that instead of the purple. From what I remember from some kind of a review, the ball type is NOT one that I would have purchased myself.

I have a dyson and would not switch to another vacuum. I have had other expensive vacuum's and the dyson is by far the better vacuum-the way I saved money on the purchase-I bought it through amazon and purchased a refurbished one so i saved quite a bit of money this way....K.

Love my Dyson!!! Go for it! I would suggest buying one off of Craigslist. You can get it for about $150-200 used. If for some reason you don't like it, you won't have spent $500 plus dollars. We bought ours used and haven't had any problems.

My friends just bought one and absolutely love it. They have 3 cats and 2 dogs. They had vacuumed their house with their old vacuum and then vacuumed the house with the new dyson. They got at least half a canister full of hair out of each room. I would say that proves it works great and is worth the money.

Dont buy! I bought the Allergy one to help me and my son with our allergies. It works, but it works like any other vacuum. It does get plugged up just like any other vacuum. I would give it back in a heart beat for as much as I paid for it!

We love our Dyson! Really great vacuum, could not be better in any way! :) Having said that... make *sure* you don't pay full price! We got a year-end clearance model at Bed Bath & Beyond (so, more than $100 off) and were allowed to use a 20% coupon as well. I'm sure there are other great deals out there, just start looking! :)

We have the Dyson ball and that bad boy rocks. We considered replacing our carpet because it appeared to be in pretty bad shape. The Dyson made it look completely refreshed. Of course, the @#$% in the cannister was pretty disgusting... But I love that all of the attachments are on board and it really cleans well. I use it on my carpets, hardwoods and it makes my blinds sparkle.

I would highly recommend this vacuum, but I will warn you, it's a heavy machine. If you have lots of stairs, you may want to look into a smaller model. Good luck!

I have owned 2 Oreck vacuum's in the past 5 years, and this tax return we decided to take the plunge and get a Dyson. I LOVE IT! We got the smaller ball Dyson, and it is fabulous! It works well on bare floors as well as area rugs. It picks up so much. We have 4 cats and that thing is always getting the cat hair. I certainly feel that the money spent was well worth it. Hope this helps!

I have a dyson, and lets just say I haven't broken it in the past 4 years, and that is really saying something! hahah! But a friend was recently on the hunt for a new vacuum, and someone told her, oreck (i think) has some sort of thing where they will do a yearly maintenence on your vacuum included with the price (like a lifetime warranty). I would love that!!!

Whoa! Totally! Except, don't pay full price for one. Do a search on your local on-line classified site, such as www.ksl.com because you can find them for way cheaper. I sing and dance every time I vacuum now because I'm so happy with my vacuum. That's worth it, isn't it?

We have a Dyson. My husband has this obsession with vacuuming, and all he wanted was a Dyson. And he didn't want just any Dyson, he wanted the most expensive purple one. I would not use the wedding money to get one and made him wait 2 years of watching for the thing to go down in price, but it never did. We paid the $549.00...and two months after we got it they released the rolly-ball one. But all that aside....I love the vacuum. It was worth it We have two dogs and while they do not shed bad we still have hair everywhere. It is bagless and easy to use once you figure it out. I love it and I recommend it to anyone who asks about it.

With 7 kids and 2 dogs, we desperately needed a vacuum that would work well and not burn out every year like all the others we tried-inclucing Orecks. We decided to bit the bullet and go Dyson-LOVE it! It has been absolutely amazing! 3yrs and going strong-and considering that we vacuum at least twice a day, that says a lot. Last year we replaced some of our carpet with hard surface flooring and I was afraid that the vacuum would then be pointless, but nope-Dyson to the rescue again! I use the hard surface flooring tool and we never have to sweep, we just pull out the vacuum. So much faster and more efficient!
I can not say enough good about mine!

We bought a Dyson 25 ball after lots of careful research and feedback like you're soliciting. I have to say after using it now for about 6 months I'm not impressed. It's waaaaaaay overpriced. In my opinion it does what vacuums should do--- suck up the dust and yuck in your carpets. But sometimes it doesn't always suck it all up and that makes me mad.. it doesn't do any better than my Hoover Windtunnel I bought back in 1996! So why is it so expensive and raved about? Maybe all these people who LOVE this vacuum were using sub-par terrible cleaners (like Dirt Devils) that really never sucked up stuff well. Here are some cons I've discovered about the Dyson 25: the cord is waaaaaaaay too short... you can only count on vacuuming one room at a time and will definitely have to re--plug it in in every room/hallway (what a pain!). The rotating device in front stops often (meaning something's stuck)... causing you to constantly troubleshoot what the latest problem is! The handle attachment comes out so you can manually get your stairs, but it's not long enough to handle a normal set of stairs, so it becomes an awkward and cumbersome job, having to heave the heavy thing up with you. And like I said, my carpet runners attract dirt and lint which this vacuum will NOT suck up. What's up with that?? I paid $500 for it!! I expect excellence but do not judge this thing to be anywhere near excellent. In my opinion, save your money and buy a much less expensive Hoover... I never had any problems with them (I've had 2 Hoovers) and they worked just as well picking up stuff. Good luck!
