Hey Mamas,
I just tried to douche for the first time in my life and it burned!!! I did not enjoy that at all. Anyone else ever had that happen? I have always been a bit sensitive anyway, never could use scented anything, not colored tp, etc, so maybe that is why. I am not a fan of douching, I think it is better to just leave the normal flora alone but the hubs was convinced that is super healthy, so I tried it. But I never want to do it again as it was so uncomfortable, anyone have experience or thoughts on that?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

In answer to all the "what the heck does your husband have to do with all this?" questioning, the answer it NOTHING!!!!LOL!!! He has just been with me through two pregnancies and the whole monthly drama and I guess I remark about the disgustingenss of pregnancy and cycles so he gets in his fix it mode!! You know men!! I am always using pantiliners and the gentle external wash that someone suggested, but I finally decided to try the whole douching and OUCH!! Won't be doing that again! I was mainly curious if this burning thing was common, it was horrible!!!!

I wouldn't let a car-less mechanic work on my car--why would you take advice about your v**ina from someone without O.?

Do not ever douche.
What in the world would your husband know about it anyway?

Teach your husband how to "google" so he can learn that this is totally not necessary. I wonder who convinced your husband that this was super healthy? Hopefully not another man!

I don't think I ever did it, maybe once a long, long time ago, but really not even sure.

I'm wondering if maybe you squeezed too hard, and the stream of fluid got you a little too roughly? Or exactly like you said, you are just too sensitive for the ingredients.

I agree with you totally, you DO NOT NEED TO DOUCHE. Our bodies are totally self-cleaning. I think you are wise to leave well enough alone. I'd be curious to hear why your husband believes douching is a good idea...

As already said - douching isn't good. The v**ina is self cleansing and all you need is a bit of soap and water to clean away the sweat and urine accumulation on the outside, never inside.

douching isnt good, but if you choose to,, use vinegar & water ones or make your own. Its known to be healthy to put plain yogurt in there too, but still, there is no need (unless you have yeast, then the yogurt is acctually an at home cure, but messy!!). Your hubby doesnt have a v**ina, so how would he know whats good for you? when I wash I give a sort of wipe around with my finger inside, particularly if I've had sex without a condom & its messy, i know, tmi... but in case your wondering!) but honestly, your v** will take care of itself, and doesnt need anything. Any scented douches could cause a yeast infection.

Not to hammer the point but, yes douching is NOT good. I mentioned it to my GYN and she said NO! Not necessary and not recommended. On top of the fact that it is not good for you, if it HURT, even more of a reason not to do it.

I would print some of these responses and give them to your husband. Also go on some medical sites and read what they have to say. I am pretty sure that they will support us as long a company that makes douching products is not one of their sponsors.

TMI ALERT!!!!
Maybe your husband has noticed a scent or taste that is off. If that is the case you may have a mild infection or the beginning of a yeast infection. You need to ask him the direct question in case you haven't. I would also want to know who he is talking to about that. Douching is not something most men know about. Who is his source and how did they get on the topic?

Lol, I'm so with Denise P. on this one! Douche is totally unnecessary, and as you have discovered, apparently unpleasant. Lesson learned. Next time your hubby suggests something like this tell him to stick it in his ear!

Agreeing with the others that you really shouldn't be doing this...For years I have used the Summers Even feminine wash product that is basically a very mild soap. I use it daily in the shower (pour a little on a rag and lather then clean and rinse). I am 38 years old and have never had any kind of female problems including yeast infections so I would like to think this product is doing a good job of helping me feel clean without messing up any natural balances I need to maintain. So, just a suggestion if you would like to use something but not necessarily the kind you have asked about.

I agree with douching is unnecessary and will cause more problems with disrupting the normal cleaning cycle down there, but do understand after having two kids myself and then getting back on your cycles and feeling the need to be "cleaned out" :-) If you douche at all it should only be done with the vinegar based or betadine type ones, nothing scented, as this would be irritating to most. I understand the whole husband thing to, they like to put in their 2 cents about our bodies, lol.

I have been trying really hard to come up with a remedy for your husband and I think its .. "honey, my friends have been bragging about shaving your hair down there to make it fun in the bedroom. Also a cucumber yogurt mask for your little man will make it softer"

My doctor told me that it's better not to do that at all. If you take care of your body, your body will take care of you. I haven't done that since I was a teenager and I'm 40. Talk to your OBGYN about it and I'm sure you'll hear the same.

Douching is NO LONGER something women are supposed to do. And, yep, I tried those Summer's Eve things a few time back when I was young and dumb and they burned me too. If you actually feel like you need to "rinse" out down there you'd be better off buying a real douche/enema bag and just use some warm water while in the shower. I'm pretty certain your gyno will tell you that it's definitely not something to make a habit of because it will mess up your ph.

My theory was confirmed years ago by a photo of my nurse practitioner and her staff holding signs that said "Real Women Don't Douche!" Tell hubs that you tried it and now you think he should try a colonic.

Good Answers MOMMIES!! Some are quiet funny! Love D. P answer!! Men are only as smart about women parts as we let them be!! TEACH YOUR MAN ABOUT YOUR BODY!! Then he will in turn teach other men! They are still like the teen boys in the locker room, talking about girl parts and thinking they are so smart!! BUT in his defense, he was only trying to help, gosh!! Give him a big kiss and giggle and wink and tell him how smart he is about cars and sports!!
Thanks for the laugh girls!!

I'm wondering where the heck your husband would get an idea that douching is super health? Not correct at all! The v**ina is a self cleaning organ and you really shouldn't have to douche at all. I think it's more of a personal preference thing. I do have a friend who has issues with her chemicals being imbalances and has to use a vinegar and water douche to help keep away yeast infections, but if there is not medical reason you really do not need to douche at all!
