My daughter is thinking of purchasing a used 2008 Jeep Comander. Just wanted info on it. What you like or dislike about it and if you have had any problems with it. It was a rental for about 1- 1/2 years and private owner for the other 1-1/2. She will purchase a 2 year warranty if she decides to get it. Thanks for any info.

What can I do next?

Going off of Jennifer S, I have never owned a Commander, but I have owned a Jeep Liberty and I swear up and down that we will NEVER own a Jeep again! We had tons of problems with it (electrical, a.c., CD player, etc.) and had we fixed all of the problems versus just deciding to trade it in (best decision ever), we would have been out $5000 EASY, and that wasn't even something big like the transmission or engine! Honestly, mine guzzled gas like nothing else, and was not worth it. I would suggest she look at a different brand!

I don't know about the comander but my husband had a Wrangler as a teenager and HATED it. I know when we started dating I had to go and get him because it caught on fire. He refuses to by Jeep products, and cringed when my sister did. Sure enough she has only had it for six months and it's had to go to the mechanic twice for leaks.

Oh my - please do not let your daughter (if you have any say of course) purchase a car that used to be a rental!! Have you ever seen a man under the age of 65 behind the wheel of a rental and observed how they treat that car?! And a Jeep no less. Research reliability and how often Jeep's are in the shop (Consumer Reports, etc). That will give you some guidance.

I highly suggest she keep searching.

Good luck

huh.....my mom has a Liberty and LOVES it. She's never had a problem and loves the the 4x4 in our winters.

See if you can have a mechanic you trust give it a once over before she buys, to rule out any imminent problems.

I love my Jeep Comander but hate the gas mileage. Plus Im not sure buying a car that was used as a rental is the best way to go. But with the warranty, she might be ok.

When the comander came out I thought it would be my dream car. I wanted one so bad. Could not afford it so I was waiting. Well my brother and his wife got one (to replace their jeep cheroke as transmission was going out. It was maybe 5 years old). I am so glad they have to deal with it and not me. It is not roomy at all. When I sit in the front my knees are all up in the dash. The seat does not go back any further and even if it did her 7 yo behind me would no longer have legs. (there is like 5 inches between seats). The 3rd row seat is a joke too. No room. If you have the 3rd seat up there is no cargo room. Can barely fit one umbrella stroller back there. Nothing else. It dirves ok. (sis in law hates to drive so when we go together I always drive) and now they are still paying it off and I think the transmission is going out. The windshield cracked. It happens. But because it is a high tech rain sensing windshield it is $600 to replace. NOt a good car.

ah, jeep. or as we used to call ours "the heep". we made our own H and put on it after the J came flying off as we were driving down the freeway. and then theres the time the right outside mirror just dropped off as we were sitting at a stop sign. and of course the time the computer took a dump out in the middle of wyoming. on the other hand, we have friends who have jeeps and never had trouble. i wouldnt buy a rental.
