Do You Know Alot About Fashion? How Do Trends Really Get Started?

Are you a trendy mom?

So, if there is a big fashion show in New York or Milan, etc., whatever those models look like other than clothing - how they wear their hair or make up - is that how trends officially start? On the runway? Or maybe in Hollywood?

Maybe you're like me where I'm not always up on fashion news, and most likely get my ideas of latest styles from department store ads or mannequins, eh?

What can I do next?

Many/most of the trends come from the streets. Streetstyle is closely watched by all of the fashion industry because some of the most creative ideas come of the streets in NY LA, , Milan, Tokyo, etc. Check out this blog-it is one of the first sites dedicated to this and probably the most popular.

I used to know some people who worked in the industry who's job was to travel the world to spot for trends and then bring them home for interpretation.

I dunno, but I am not that trendy. I am updated, but don't buy into "well, this season colorblocking will be "in."' If I like something, I will buy it. Sometimes it is on trend, other times it isn't. As long as I think it is pretty.

I am sure they only come up with new trends to try to convince everyone that THEIR look is outdated, so they need to buy NEW clothes to be trendy. There's no money in simply designing and manufacturing well-made timeless looks. They've gotta create a demand for it. I don't buy into it, even if everyone in Hollywood is wearing it. I've gotta love it myself.

Usually, fashions in this country start from TV shows. Shows that are watched by younger (more impressionable) people tend to start up the new trends. Shows like "friends" etc. have full time people who decide what the stars are going to wear. The designers create knock offs and a new style is born.

Some fashions also start in other countries...believe it or not, a lot of designers go to
Japan and see what they're wearing. Also france and Italy are big too.

It can really come from anywhere, but usually the people with access to the media have the most influence.

Not a trendy person. If I like it, then I wear it. I don't really care what everyone else is doing. :)

I think fashion comes from imitation. I have a friend who is trying to be a designer, he comes up with stuff from what he sees is popular and tries to give it a fresh twist.

Personally, I think trends are started by people who are not afraid to look stupid.
Since THEY are comfortable with it, others think "that is so cool" and begin imitating it.
Before you know it the fad is in full swing.
Then it gradually becomes yesterdays news as the next thing comes around.

Eventually you just stop paying attention to all the hype and just get what ever you are comfortable with.

I wish I was better with fashion. I always see cute outfits on pintrist, but then I think that there is no way it would look good on me. I'm really modest too. I'm a jeans and T shirt kind of person, but I do LOVE to dress up once in a while in something really cute. I'm just not good with matching stuff (for myself). For my kids, I think I do a good job, and for my clients as well (I'm a photographer), but for me, I'm totally stumped.
