Direct TV vs Uverse vs Online TV

Hello ladies,

I am trying to decide if I should keep uverse or try Direct TV. Uverse was ok but prices went up so it is getting expensive I should have been locked in at my rate but they CLAIM it went up for everyone. I have tried switching thru the different "U" packages, right now I have U200. According to the ad Direct TV is MUCH cheaper and they also have WAY more channels BUT I noticed it uses a satelite dish. I have reservations about the "dish".

I have also been throwing around the idea of CANCELING cable altogether.....and trying out watching TV using online services but I have reservations about that also.

I'm just venting now: I HATE the way they always give you this great price but when you actually get the bill all those fees, surcharges and taxes push it up $10 or more.

Please share your thoughts on all of this. If you have one or the other please share you pro's & cons of either. Uverse-Direct TV-Online TV

Thanks!

So What Happened?

So far I still have Uverse, but that will be getting canceled as soon as I have the "unexpected" new baby. After paycuts and such cable is just a luxury that my family will have to do without for a while. Especially since I'll be having to buy diapers, and pay daycare.

I hated DirecTV. I had to call this morning for my UVerse because my husband was flipping out over the bill and they reduced it for me by $20. I love UVerse and would hate to lose them for sucky service and horrible customer service so after I paid my bill I let them know that we really wanted to keep them but my husband wanted to change to another company for our package. You HAVE to tell them that you're thinking of switching to DirecTV. That's very important, because then they'll switch you to their "loyalty" department and help reduce your bill. They'll check to see if there are promotions in your state that they can apply or if services can actually be reduced for other reasons.

I had direct TV for a month. I couldn't stand that every time it storms you lose the signal. It was sunny all day while I wasn't home or busy with something. The minute I sat down to watch something, here comes the rain again. :(

I like my uverse. I think it has gone up but no worse than cable or anyone else. What I have found is what is cheapest is that way for a reason. Around here Charter is practically giving cable away because they drove all their customers away with crappy service.

We had Uverse andliked it till it went up. We were paing too much for only watching a few channels and then they were reruns of shows that we liked. We got rid of cable and bought an indoor outdoor antennae and use that to watch basic cable NBC, CBS, PBS, FOX, no ABC but a few other channels. We also have netflix and watch that alot. we really don't miss having cable. Maybe except for now that True Blood is on again, but like I said we have netlix and Apple TV so we really aren't missing anything.

We have DirecTV and have had it in this house for over 7 years, DH has had it longer. If the dish has been installed properly, losing signal is rare. Last night during the bad storms, it was a shakey picture for about 5 minutes. I would say we lose a couple times a year and never for very long. It comes right back up, unlike cable where it the lines went down, it was down for hours/days. We love Direct and wouldn't change it.

Had Direct... HATE the dish. wind, rain, bad mood = no TV! Just turned off Uverse. LOVED it, especially the DVR, but it was $80 a month for U200 + HD channels (my hubby swears its better picture). We never watch shows when they are on, ALWAYS DVR, hulu or netflix. SO...why were we paying $80 a month?!?! hulu plus is HD already.

Last month I took it down to UBasic (so we still have weather, news, locals & PBS for my 3 year old). Thats only $19 a month.

We got Sony's network Media Player for Netflix & Hulu ($15/mo for both memberships, but we were already paying that. $75 for the Sony Player). LOVE IT. Netflix has all of the cartoons my son loves and Hulu has all of the shows we watch. Its a day after airing, but we never watched same day anyway. Only warning..... streaming SUCKS via Wifi.... you really need to use a corded eathernet.

We are saving $60 a month + reduction of all of the taxes & fees you pay (I added up $52 a month on the Uverse before the downgrade!!!!) I'm happy.
