Diflucan and Sleep Disruptions?

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone knows anything about Diflucan.
My 4 month old battled thrush in October and took Diflucan for apx 9-10 days. It was not a bad case, but he was having significant trouble sleeping while he had the thrush. When we started oral Diflucan he immediately slept better within 24 hours, and this pattern continued on days 1-5 of the medication. From then on however his sleep patterns became more and more erratic. He was sleeping no more than 1 hour at a stretch, up all night screaming, passing gas. His bowel movements were foul and have no curds (he is exclusivly breastfed so i thought it weird) and I felt that the Diflucan must have killed off all the good and bad bacteria in his GI tract. So I started probiotics.
The probiotics were even worse. He was in pain during the day and night. I took him off the diflucan after about 10 days and slowly we worked into a better routine once i figured out that the probiotics were a problem.
Then a week ago I noticed that the white patches were back. And this new bout of thrush explained the sleep struggles we have been going through. So the exact same thing happened since I had put him on oral Diflucan! A few good days of sleeping have now erroded into this horrible trend. Only problem now is that I have gone back to work full time and I have no chance to catch up on sleep.
I don't want to try probiotics again, and I am very concerned about staying on the medication for the full 13 days because I want these yeasties gone! I have read so much about chronic yeast overgrowth in adults that it spooks me, I want to do whatever it takes to keep these guys in check.
So does anyone know about Diflucan? Is it making my baby irritable and lose sleep? is there an alternative effective treatment for thrush if this doesn't completely erradicate the issue?
A couple extra things to know. I have never had the thrush, not an itch or red bump, it is all in him. And his GI tract seems sensitive anyway because I have had to give up dairy for the last 2 months. I have not started solids yet becaugse I am nervous about his potential for allergy. And after poking around online i feel it important to add that I had Group B strep while pregnant, but delivered him too fast to get the meds by IV, so he was given medication in the hospital.
Any thoughts?

Natural Treatment For Infant Thrush
Infant thrush can present as a fungal infection in the mouth. Often there is a diaper rash to go along with it. It can be painful, but some infants don't seem to be bothered with the thrush. If you're nursing, thrush can be passed from mom's breast to baby's mouth and back again. Candidate for Candida and Yeast Infections is a natural remedy that Moms can use to help starve the yeast in their bodies and help avoid passing it along to the baby. Here are some natural treatments for thrush:

Hi C.:

Thrush indeed can be very painful because the entire digestive system is compromised. I had a mommy client with twins, who both had thrush. There was a back and forth re-infection because when mom breastfed the thrush (on the tongue) would get on her nipple and no precautions were taken.

She consulted with me and they all went on a natural care protocol that took care of the issue.

Feel free to contact my office for a consult.

All the best,
N.

usually diflucan is a pretty heavy duty med. surprised that baby was on for 10 days. if nursing, you should have taken a dose as well, so not to give him it again through the nipple

First, if he has it so do you. You pass it back and forth between each other every time you nurse. I never had an itch or a bump or any signs of it, but I had it just the same. But if he has is so do you. Second, we used Nystatin oral suspention for the yeast infection, and I also go the cream for his butt. Because it isn't only in the mouth but the entire digestive tract. Check his bottom, does he have a rash with small raised bumps. Third, what you need to do after you nurse is leave your bra open and let your nipples dry on their own. Once they were dry, I used the nystatin oral on my nipples to help get rid of the yeast in my breast milk. My doc said that wouldn't work, but it did. Good luck, thrush is very hard to get rid of.
