A.,

Let me share with you two postings from people with thyroid conditions on MonaVie..

I had been on synthroid my whole adult life, then went through a pituatary brain tumor and put on coritsol of which I was told I would have to continue the rest of my life. I have been on MonaVie a year now and my intuition told me I didn't need the cortisol anymore. I did not tell my dr. I just went off. In the past when I tried that, I would end up in the hospital needing an IV. This time I felt great. After 4 weeks I went and got the usual blood work for my issue and everything came back normal. That is when I told the doc. She was in disbelief but cool about it. That gave me the courage to try the same with the thyroid and I am happy to say I have been off of that for 3 months now!! Something I never dreamed possible. My pituatary is kicking in and functioning for the first time since 1994. MonaVie is regulating the hormones I feel younger than I have in 20 years....esp for being 49. It is true, give the body what it needs and it will heal itself! LS

Your story gives me hope. I have been on thyroid medication for about 10 years. I have many family members on synthroid also. My grandmother just recently had her thyroid levels checked and they have lowered her synthroid dose. She has only been drinking Mona Vie for approx. 2 months. Mona Vie is the only change she can contribute the change in her thyroid to. She had radiation treatment for cancer 17 years ago that killed her thyroid. So this is somewhat of a miracle. I am new to Mona Vie and can't wait to share these stories with the rest of my family.

MonaVie is a healthy choice, 4 ounces a day! thats it.. Its a healthy juice drink that contains 19 fruits, all natural. no msg, no diuretics, no contraband. All natural,

Is it a bariatric dr?? I went to one too for a while. After all said and done. Still overweight b/c could not stay on the restricted diet. Very hard. Don't trust him with medication! Do your own research! I did. I'll give you more details if you want them, but too many to write. Good luck!

You need to make sure that you need to be on the thyroid medication before you start taking it. Once you start you are never supposed to stop, I have been on it for many years and would like to stop, but I asked my primary care doctor (not the one who prescribed it) what would happen if I stopped. She told me that I would eventually go into a coma and die. So needless to say I will not stop. The doctor that prescribed it put me on it because of symptoms that I was having. If I had it to do over, I am 62, I would have had more test done.

A. I am seeing the same doc and have been for months. My insurance covers seeing him because I have a thyroid issue. I did a lot of research on him and he has a lot of credentials. But if you are uncomfortable maybe it is not for you. The high protein is temporary. It is meant to carb starve your body. He did change my thyroid a bit and adjust my antidepressant because it was causing weight gain. I had been trying to lose weight and was at my wits end so his advice made sense. Feel free to email me with any questions if you want. Like everyone has stated you need to go with your gut, but he has really worked with me through several bumps in the road.

I don't know -- if he's writing prescriptions, he IS a medical doctor... I think if it were me, I'd be in communication with my primary care doc and keep a very open dialogue. He/she may be put out that someone else is taking his/her patient and changing the meds you're on. I don't think it would be out of the realm of reasonable to tell your primary care doctor that you're frustrated about weight and would like to be on the lowest dose of thyroid -- that, if your thyroid is a little low, you'd like a little help.

I am not a doctor, though. There may be reasons for the things your primary care doc does. If you ask questions and are actively interested -- Why am I on this and not this? Why can't I take thyroid? What do you suggest for a diet?

I personally think it's dangerous to just change people's meds without making sure you know all of their histories. Maybe this new doctor did...

Never count out good ol' fashioned diet and exercise as the very best way to boost your metabolism and body image!

A., I have hypothyroidism... It is not treatable without medication. I have a friend who tried to go some naturalistic route with her thyroid. She spent tons of money on health food stuff, etc. After 2 years of complete exhaustion she went to another dr. who put her on medication and she wishes she did it sooner.
One thing you may not know, if you are taking a thyroid medication; don't take it with anything else.. not even another med. During my pregnancy I took my thyroid med with my prenatal.. and had lots of issues. My Dr. informed me that the vitamin was screwing up absorption. PS. You can find an internist who specializes in thyroid (But who is not a specialist like an endocronologist is.) Your insurance will cover this and he will be better suited in dealing with your thyroid. Some Drs don't understand the changes that have taken place in thyroid care in the last 5-7 years. (Which is probably why your first Dr. did nothing. He probably does not know studies have changed.)
