okay, So I see these videos on youtube of babies laughing hysterical at things such as ripping paper, a barking dog, mom sneezing, etc. Now my son will laugh when being tickled and played with, but he's never seen something and laughed hysterically. I'm not "concerned" I just am curious about other's experience with it. ** ive been trying SO hard lol.. he is a pretty serious guy.. he's more interested in figuring things out and the all important "where is that tv remote?" lol

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

After "trying" a little harder.. focusing more for a couple days on getting him to belly laugh.. he will do it once provoked.. like me crawling my hands up reeeeeal slow to him, would get him laughing hard.. I tried all the youtube stuff.. I ripped like 10 pieces of paper lol I know he's a little comedian because he goes out of his way to make other people laugh (he'll get everyone laughing, notice the reaction and do the same thing over and over) maybe he just prefers making people laugh then laughing himself :) Thank you everyone for the responses.. good to know there's a wide spectrum

One of my favorite memories of my kids when they were little is when my daughter was two and my son was about 8 months old. She jumped, and for some reason he just started giggling. So she did it again, and he started laughing hysterically. This went on for about five minutes, her jumping, him laughing, and her having so much fun making her brother laugh. Before he was born, I was worried about jealousy and sibling rivalry, but this was a moment where I realized that maybe they weren't going to grow up and hate each other after all. :-)

Absolutely, he can really get going sometimes with the hysterical laughter. We have him on video at around 6 months squealing and cracking up at daddy dancing around and pretending to box. That still will get a good laugh out of him. My son is also what I like to call a social laugher. Anytime he hears someone laughing he joins in, he wants to be in on the joke I guess. It's really cute :)

Oh man, I remember my babies busting a gut and it makes you laugh so hard too, it's so hilarious. Simple things usually will do it. I could put a towel over my head and pull it real fast and say "boo".. and they would die laffing. You could do it 10 times in a row and they'd crack up till they got hiccups. It's usually always something simple yet a little shocking that would get mine to do it.

yes, my youngest did when she REALLY thought something was funny she cackled hoarsely like a little tiny smoking witch. It always had us laughing so hard our eyes watered!

My oldest never laughed hysterically like that when she was a baby.

This was such an interesting question, b/c I assumed all babies laughed as mine did, as the one's uploaded on youtube.

I did not know until reading these answers that we are all so different early on with such a simple topic as laughing. I regret not videotaping my laughing babies now. And I can't recall what they laughed about either.

My son was on the serious side as a baby. He's now 8. He was never a "hysterically-laugh-at-anything" type of baby. But he has a wonderful sense of humor though and we crack up together quite frequently....

Oh, yes. My son has one of the most hysterically contagious laughs. If I ever thought of having my camera, I could have so many videos for youtube. My nephew is almost 2 and laughs, but still doesn't laugh really hysterically.

we have photos of our son at 3 1/2 months....laughing hysterically because his Daddy was blowing raspberries on his neck! It was his 1st Christmas & everybody was amazed that he could do it! It was in the middle of a bottle feeding, & he's blowing milk/spit bubbles with each photo....that's how hard he was laughing.

Thanks for bringing back good memories!

They are all different. My son used to laugh hysterically at Drowsy the doll. You just never know what will get them laughing. Some kids are very
serious and do not get into a belly laugh.

My oldest, at just around 8 or 9 months, laughed until he couldn't breathe everytime we twirled a fabric sunflower in his face!

My other two laughed, but it just wasn't the same as that infectious baby hysterics laugh :(

No :(
My daughter will be 1 tomorrow & I still can't get her to crack up!! She laughs when she sees silly things, or when being tickled & played with. But, like some stuff I see where they will just laugh their butts away, mine doesn't...My oldest didn't either at this age, but my middle (now 4) would crack up at everything!!

My daughter, now two, has always been a smiling, happy child, but like your son has never been a roaring laugher. Yes, she laughs at certain things but never that hysterical type. I miss it too! But every day people say what a pretty smile she has, so as with your son, I'm sure she's just fine—just not a huge laugher.
I say, let's not worry about it! :)

My son never laughed hysterically, but my daughter did only once, at around 6 months old, when we were visiting my uncle who had a boston terrier. My daughter was on her stomach, on the carpet, and the dog came up to her and licked her cheek. She laughed hysterically. That's the only time!

Every baby is different =) My almost-8-month-old laughs at a lot, sometimes when I am not doing anything besides looking at him funny. Other times I have to play with him to get a giggle. He is pretty much a laughable baby though. My sister's baby doesn't giggle a lot at all! He looks at me and my sister like we are both crazy (seriously... like an adult would). Every baby is different!

No! She never did! My nephew did though and it was always hysterical. In fact I told my sister I was a little jealous that her son had such a great belly laugh. :)

Nope. My baby is older than yours and giggles and squeals sometimes, but I've only ever gotten one real laugh. It's totally normal as long as the child is social and interactive, it's just a different personality.
