Did Anyone Travel to India with Small Kids?

My kids are 16 months and 3. We will travel to East India to a small city called Bokaro Steel City in Bihar. We will go for 22 days. I'm worried that the bottled water won't be from a clean source. Since going there will be 2 to 3 days I will need to give them bottled water. Do you have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

You said small, but how young? If you are concerned about air sickness and your children are old enough I would recommend Dramamine. They have chewable tablets (I think they are orange flavored, but not sure). I haven't been to India, but I did take my son to England when he was 3. He got a cold - thankfully it was an English speaking country so I could talk to the pharmacist; however in your situation I would recommend packing a kit with meds for all the basics (fever, upset stomach, cold/flu, cuts/scrapes, thermometer, band-aids, etc.). Also, my son was still in diapers, but to avoid any possible diaper rash I took enough Pampers and wipes for the whole trip. It worked out nicely because as I used up the diapers I had room for souvenirs. Finally, my child is a very picky eater, so I packed lots of individually wrapped snacks (i.e. goldfish crackers, cereal bars, etc). Don't forget gum for the plane ascent and descent, unless you have an infant in which case just nursing them through that part of the flight works great. Ok, one last thing - once I took my son on a plane and he had an ear infection that I didn't learn about until we were in the air and he was screaming. If I were you, I would get your kids a check up a day or two before you leave. That way if anything is starting you can jump on it before it becomes a disaster at 30,000 feet! Good luck, take lots of pictures, and enjoy!

I have a friend who spends a lot of time in India - The best advice I was given by them is to make sure ALL your vaccinations are up to date and NEVER drink the local water.

Hope that helps!
