Dentist Needed?

My son is 8 months old on Monday and he already has 8 teeth! When do I need to start taking him to the dentist? Most moms I know didn't worry about this until their child was at least 2 years old, but then their kids didn't have more than 2 teeth at this age. My son has also starting grinding them, which I worry about. Does anyone know of a good dentist in the area that specializes in young children? (I'm in Grosse Pointe Woods, but I'd be willing to drive a bit to get a good dentist) Thanks!

Dear Joy

We have a good pediatric dentist in Troy. We like him very much. He will be far from you but I think he is worth it. His name is Dr. Zhu and phone number is ###-###-####. He is available on Sundays and evenning.

Dr. Kathleen Gibney is an AWESOME dentist. She is actually on Mack and Severn (in the Woods I believe). She is very patient and knowledgeable. My 5 year old step-daughter had never seen a dentist and this summer saw Dr. Gibney. She had to get a filling, and she still loves to go to the dentist. Dr. Gibney's demeanor is so sweet with all of her patients, especially children (she is mother too).

Hello Joy, I spoke to my dentist at my last visit. He said they generally don't start on children until they are about 4 years old. He just recommended that it's never to early to introduce a tooth brush. As long as you are the one brushing the teeth.

I have an 11 month old and when I brush my teeth I try and show her what I am doing and then put her tooth brush on her teeth. (no toothpaste). All she wants to do is bite it of corse but I keep trying.

My dentist is in St. Clair Shores he is very good. His name is Dr. Lang. 27225 Little Mack S.C.S. ###-###-####

Best of luck!

About me: Married, work full time and have an 11 month old little girl.

Hi Joy! I've heard from a dentist that it's not necessary to take your baby until around 2 years of age. He advised that to clean teeth of babies, just take a wash cloth and swipe them quickly. I personally use one of those finger-tooth brushes for babies. It's a fun game for my daughter and I and she loves the massaging of her gums.
