Hi Mamas!
I am up late freaking myself out and who better to talk to than you girls (and occasional guy) :)
So here is my dilemma... I am day 2 on accutane. Now this was a long hard decision to make, didnt want to go on it blah blah this is the last resort... anyways, my whole body hurts! My back, my arms... i feel like I went to the gym yesterday and killed myself.. now I didnt go to the gym and I have really done nothing to strain myself to feel like this..
So I started looking up muscle aches/soreness while on accutane and now am freaked out! So yes I am calling my doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime, the 8 hrs inbetween while I am awake at work freaking out about this, does anyone have any similar stories or know anyone who has???
No difficulties breathing or allergic reaction stuff, but maybe my dose is too high and my body is like "woah!"...
thanks mamas..
added: i weigh 130lbs and am on 40mg daily. the dosing in based on weight and severity, so thats why i am wondering if i should be slightly less of a dose?? And yes I am aware of the main law suits that are pending against this drug, but my dermatologist said that as long as we keep my labs in check and really monitor the blood work it should be ok.. I know scary stuff!! thats why it was such a hard and long decision...
I am calling tomorrow regardless, This is scary

What can I do next?

My husband was on that years ago for acne and now he has IBS. There is also a commercial that comes on about accutane sufferers and one of the side effects is IBS. I would find something else to take if possible.

I love the advice you are getting from people WHO HAVE NEVER TAKEN ACCUTANE. Here's my advice, as someone who took 80 mg. a day for 7 months. One of the things that makes accutane work so well is that it dries out the excess oil that your skin produces. It also dries out all your other bodily fluids, including the fluid between your joints. I took glucosamine (sp?) while I was on accutane and it kept the aches and pains at bay. Also, up your fluid intake during the day.

I completed my course of accutane nearly ten years ago, and my skin still looks great. It is a last resort, and the decision does not come easily, but it was the only thing that really worked for my adult acne, after trying many other Rx and OTC products. Accutane has some annoying side affects, but you should adjust to them as time goes on. PM me if you have any other questions.

Not to be rude; but I think there is a lawsuit out on accutane?! I did some research here are some web sites you may want to read....Please go to the doctor or even to the ER. Those are some scary reactions!
Isotretinoin aka accutane...what is the mg you are on?

I would stop taking this drug ASAP if you are feeling that bad. No one should feel that way when taking any drug. Even if the doctor tells you it will get better with time; you shouldn't have to put your body through this.

Good luck!

I took Accutane but it was like at least 15 years ago. I don't remember aches but I do remember having to use eye drops for dry eyes, chapstick and some moisturizer. That is how it works though. It dry's out your sebaceous glands which cause the acne under the skin. I had extremely oily skin and bad skin that nothing seemed to take care of. My skin is normal to combination now and I love it. I know there is a lot of criticism around this drug but I can tell you it changed my life - for the better! I call it a miracle drug! As a young girl with bad acne on my face, chest and back I was desperate. My mom tried it but she wasn't near as oily as I was and the dryness drove her so crazy she stopped it after a few months. I would just work with your doctor to make sure you understand how this works. My guess it is just a side effect and may go away.

Looks like your aches are part of the side effects. Call your doc but I am sure you are fine. The help that Accutane gives a person sometimes outweighs the risks. Just as in other drugs. I hope it works for you and you never have to deal with your skin issues again. I never used Accutane but wish I had. My face now has scars due to cystic acne. The cystic acne finally cleared up the year I turned 39. I had lived with it so long. Now for some reason I just get little annoying pimples.

My sister was on Accutane. The doctor specified on the prescription that it be filled as the name brand only. The pharmacy filled it as a generic anyway and my mother never noticed the change. Several months later, my sister skin began to crack and was severally dry. Also, her began to look very brittle and was breaking off and falling out. In fact, my sister hair before she began treatment was well past her waist. Several months into treatment the majority of her hair was broke off at the shoulder blades with a few long hairs hanging down longer. We are Pentecostal and do not believe in cutting or trimming our hair and so this damage to her hair was very detrimental to her. She was forced to wear her hair up in order to hide the damage. The doctor was mad when he found that the prescription had been substituted and said that was the very reason why he did not want it filled as a generic.

I would say for starters to check and see if yours is name brand or generic. I would definitely contact my doctor regardless.
