Davy Jones Died. Are You Sad?

Davy Jones from the Monkees just died of a heart attack. Probably only older moms will be affected by this one, but I feel like a part of my childhood just died. Anyone else sad?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

(I'm not crying or anything, just a little blue.)

Oops, misspelled his name. Guess we weren't THAT close.

Do you remember the Brady Bunch episode where he took Marsha to her school dance? It was one of my favorites.

I just read this post on my FB page a mom was explaining to her daughter..
"I had to explain to my daughter that someday, when she is 49, that she will be sad if Justin Bieber dies. RIP Davey. "

He was my very first celebrity crush. I was 4 or 5.

I remember their TV show was coming on TV here in Austin and I wanted to see it so bad, but my mom and dad said I would be asleep. I asked the to please wake me up! The next morning I asked, "why didn't you wake me up?" They said they tried to wake me up, but I said "no I want to sleep!"

I still have their albums.. You know record albums!

It just brings home how old I am.

He was only 66! And he had a heart attack! boo.......

On a side note. My son told me a joke the other day.

You know when a celebrity singer dies the radio plays their songs over and over for months.............I have decided I never want Justin Beiber to die!!

MTV showed all their shows as reruns back in the mid 80's, as a 20 year anniversary thing - I was 12/13 then, so I'm probably one of a whole "new" generation of kids that fell in love with them and became fans all over again. RIP Davey Jones. :'(

It's sad that he was not that old. I loved watching The Monkees when I was a kid and I remember the Brady Bunch episode with him. He was my first celebrity crush when I was a kid.

I am with DVMMOM - I remember their 80's comeback. My sister and I recorded all of their episodes, went to at least 3 concerts, and had posters like a regular teeny-bopper (probably gave my parents a time warp feeling). There was a meet the Monkees contest once, and I think I sent in like 30 entries.
I remember seeing him in Santa Barbara around that time - my friend and I followed him. :)
Just a lot of fun memories - thanks for posting, although it's sad news.

Oh no! This is the first I've heard about it. He is a small part of my childhood too! I had never even heard of Davy Jones until I saw the Brady Bunch episode where he is Marcia Brady's date. And then once Nickelodeon started showing Monkee reruns every night, I got to like the Monkees too. Rest in peace, Davy.

I can't believe Davy Jones died. I feel so sad. If you are a certain age and you close your eyes I'll bet you can see his happy face. He was a great guy too, he treated my (then) 13 yr old son as an equal and was incredibly kind to him. I will remember him forever for the lessons in gentlemanlyness he taught Steven even more than for the pleasure his singing and dancing has brought.

So so sad!! I love him! I used to watch the Monkees all the time and he was my favorite! And I loved him on that episode of the Brady Bunch.

And by the way, I am only 30, so it isn't just the older moms. (at least I hope I'm not one of the "older" moms yet)

The radio station I am listening to is playing their music.
The Brady Bunch was such a non-violent, respectable show (not like most of the shows the kids and tweens watch today !!!) And Davy took Marsha Brady to a dance ! What a memorable episode of The Brady Bunch !
I have so may fond memories of Davy Jones !
I will always remember his happy smiling face...and that gorgeous accent.
Yes, I am sad !

I thought he was "dreamy" as a kid...and remember hopping around with my bowl of Super Sugar Crisps in front of the TV to their "hip music." LOL!

Yes, I'm sad. I guess it's the beginning of the end of an era. I hope he's in peace as he (and the other band members) brought joy to many with his music and comedy.

Guess it happens.
I use to love the Monkees Sat morning show when I was a kid.
I'll always be able to sing their theme by heart.
I liked "Daydream Believer" and "The Last Train to Clarksville" to name a few.

you know, I am finding...more & more...that the death of celebrities has zero affect on me. I don't believe I've become cold & calloused. I simply prefer to focus on the realities in my life....my loved friends & family.

I say a prayer of passing/mourning & move on. Victims, such as the students yesterday, are different. I find events such as that....or the tornados in the midwest....more heart-wrenching.

& I was a fan. I still have the original Monkees album & some 45s. :)

I NEVER, and I do mean NEVER, have tears over a celebrity passing. I have sympathy for their friends and family and all, but my reaction has always been "Oh that's sad. They were a great artist" and many times I will post tribute RIP videos if they were someone I enjoyed and admired (Etta James, Don Cornelius, for sure).

But today I actually cried a little watching and posting a vid of The Monkees doing Daydream Believer. Not sure why his death has affected me but it did. Maybe it's that "part of my childhood died today" thing, maybe it's that he's the same age as my mom. I don't know. But yeah I cried a little.

~The only celebrity death that really truly upset me was Heath Ledger! I am still not over that one, to be completely honest! He was so talented and so young and so handsome! I can't help but think about his poor parents every time I think about him! So very Sad!

Yes, it is sad. I really enjoyed the show and music (still do.) Unlike so many other celebs, he seemed like a really decent person.
But as someone else said, I am much more saddened by the school shooting and tornado deaths.

No, not sad but I did like him. Their revival tour in the late 80's was my first big concert. I'm assuming that he didn't die under tragic circumstances - he had a good life!

It is always sad when someone dies, but it does not directly effect me so I think well wishes to his survivors and thank him for what he has done while here and move on. I enjoyed watching his show when I was a kid and sing the theme son to and about my son all the time!
