Daughter Complains About Being Cold, but Won't Let Me Dress Her Warm

She is two. I know she is cold, she both says so and holds her arms like she is. I try to dress her warm multiple times a day, but all she wants to do is wear her "princess Cinderebrela dress" (her favorite sun dress). Granted I live is southern California so when I say cold, its 60 degrees outside. She will keep clothes on when we go out, but not in the house. She refuses to wear anything with long sleeves or buttons. She will only wear a jacket if its less than 60 degrees out. Yet will still complain about being cold. By "refuses", I mean she will through a fit if I try to put something on her, or will immediately remove the clothing (usually the latter). My oldest was the same way, but she just never got cold. So I let it go. However, today I got clever with getting my oldest to wear her jacket, "I know you won't be cold, but you need to wear the sweatshirt until you get inside, or every one will think I'm a bad mom." LoL. I can't seem to say anything clever enough to get the baby to wear weather appropriate clothing. She's not able to be reasoned with.

Any bright ideas to keep my cold baby in clothes?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It seems a silly matter to punish over. I just want her to be warm.
cute ideas. As for the Cinderella wrap, she owns one from her halloween costume and I can't even get her to wear that!

Make a shawl out of a sparkly but warm material and have matching sparkly leggings or tights and tell her this is how princesses keep warm.

Who's the parent and adult here?

If she throws a fit put her in her room until she settles down. Then calmly explain to her that she will wear what you tell her to because you are Mommy and you know best.

Or the princess dress could just disappear for a while.

Show her pictures of princesses wearing winter clothes.
Google 'renaissance winter clothes', select images, then select a few to print out and show her how cold princesses dress to stay warm.

Or you could get/make her a Little Red Riding Hood cloak that she can wear around the house (a red poncho with a hood works well, too).

These are gorgeous to look at (though WAY out of my price range):

Well, she IS only 2. I have a two year old two (in a month) and we are COLD. It's about 37 right now.
How about a onesie that she can wear under her princess dress? Sparkly tights or leggings?
She wont die or get sick in 60 degrees, so I think you are okay. I WISH it was 60!

Let her put the dress on over her normal clothes. My daughter had a favorite princess dress she wanted to wear everyday too. I had to put it on her over a t-shirt, Will she let you put a t-shirt on underneath the princess dress? How about taking her shopping and letting her pick something out? I would give my daughter a choice be.tween two alternatives, "Ok, you can decide, either you can wear the t-shirt under the dress, or you can wear this other shirt. It's either one or the other, which one do you choose?"

Can you get her some gloves like Cinderella's? You can cut out the fingers so she can use her hands. Or she could wear another skirt underneath to make her dress poofier and wear tights. My 4 yr old and I have been butting heads on this issue lately and today I won the battle by explaining that Rapunzel has an under dress and an outer dress. We talked about the parts of Rapunzel's body that are covered by each dress and how neither dress would be very good all by itself, but they work well together.

If she were older, I'd just say give her a shawl and say nothing more about it; let logical consequences win out.

But she's two. She is lacking in critical thinking ability.

So I would say "put on this wrap with your princess dress or I will put it away for the rest of the winter."

Also, put away all of her short sleeved clothes so they aren't even there to choose from.

My son wasn't wearing a coat outside until recently. We live in Chicago. It was cold. Really cold. One day we went to the park and he was in a short sleeve shirt. All the other kids had on hats and gloves --it was that cold, high 30s.

Finally, one day, I offered him up a new coat. he accepted it. Now he wears his coat even if it's warm outside!

let her freeze, and she will eventually wear weather appropriate clothes. It's a 2 year old thing.

My son won't and is 3, in the Midwest. Wants only short sleeves and no coat. (I got really mad about shorts since the preschool would think we're nuts). And it's the 30's. I said fine, be cold. Short sleeves, no coat when we go out.

If he really is cold enough to be uncomfy, he asks for a coat. But it has to be below 32. Oldest STILL no coat (though he does take it to recess).

My daughter is always saying how hot she is. It was 30 something today and she had a TSHIRT on in the car, and was begging to open windows. I don't get it!!! Normally we have a thin fleece for the car but she just wants a tshirt.

What you do is get her a wrap just like the cinderella's etc wear. She can wrap it around her shoulders and keep herself warm. I'm sure you can find tons of pictures on line with the last dance on Cinderella where she where's the white wrap or even the cloth she wears in the kitchens while cleaning.
