Crooked Teeth Catching Food

My 14 month old has 7 teeth now - 5 on top and 2 on the bottom. The bottom almost form an upside down V, they're so close and crooked. I'm sure these will straighten out when the others come, but for now, they're catching food ALL the time. Besides brushing her teeth after every meal and snack, is there any thing I can do to make sure these stay clean? She's way too young for me to floss and she doesn't like my fingers in her mouth anyway!

What can I do next?

I've always been told that apples help to clean the teeth! They just might help to keep things cleaned up a bit. I would speak to the doctor or call your dentist. They should be happy to help you with more ideas. Does your daughter like to brush? What about getting a special toothbrush that she can chew on by herself, supervised of course? Hope you get it all figured out. Good luck, T. M.

As important as keeping the teeth clean is figuring out what is causing this. If she sucks her thumb, takes a pacifier, or is still drinking out of a bottle or sippy cup, stop those habits before it gets worse. Check out:

My son is also 14 months old and gets food stuck in his bottom teeth. I use those disposable flossers(they come about 50 in a bag and I can usually find them at the dollar store) and he actually lets me use them. I don't know if it will work but it's worth a shot.

I would talk to your ped. about it. They will probably refer you to a ped dentist but its worth a shot. I dont know if there is anything they can actually do for her as they are baby teeth and they are not all in yet. FYI they do make diposable flossers for kids so you dont have to wrap dental floss string around your fingers and take the chance of having them bitten.

You could try a water pick on the lowest setting, I am in love with my water pick, they are pricey but well worth it and it will be many years before she loses those baby teeth so it may be a good investment. If I read your post right it is only affecting 2 teeth on the bottom so it would only be a quick squirt on those teeth, which is not enough(I wouldn't think) to cause her to choke. Worth a try!
