Hi! happy Friday peeps!

My girls will be in a dance recital tomorrow from 5:30 - 7 pm. Then my in laws and my parents will be coming over for dinner afterwards - I'm planning on serving pulled pork. I bought a 4 lb pork shoulder, I was thinking of cooking the pork in the crock pot during the day, then pulling it and leaving it on low while we're at the recital.

Who has an awesome (not super spicy) recipe?

I'm going to serve it with kaiser rolls and cole slaw, and corn, potato salad and watermelon on the side.

So What Happened?

Thanks these recipes are great!! Quick question - do I cook it low or high and for how long?

ETA - Oh I see I got an answer to that - high for 8 hours. Thanks!

Final update: Thank you all so much! I used root beer - put some S&P on the pork shoulder. Cooked on high for 8 hours and then drained all the liquid, pulled it and put the bbq sauce on.

DELISH!!!!

I know you asked about pork, but I will share this anyway and maybe you can try it next time. This past weekend I had a bday party for my bff. I asked her what she wanted, she said "shredded chicken sandwhiches". Ok, never had them so I go the recipe. Its from her cousin who owned a restaraunt in Ohio and people came in JUST for these:

4lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
3-4lbs bonesless skinless chicken thighs
2 packets dry onion soup mix
salt and pepper to taste

Cut meat into smaller pieces (but you don't have too). Add meat to crockpot, cover just chicken with water (not too much, just enough to cover meat) add both packets of soup and salt and pepper to taste. Stir. Heat on low all day or overnight. When done, stir so meat becomes stredded. Use slotted spoon to drain or pinchers, put on kaiser roll, serve. Hubby added bbq sauce from the bottle on his, I added a slice of cheese...these were AWESOME and will be served frequently this summer since I don't like to cook. Good luck and have fun!!!

The absolute easiest, of course, is to find a bottled BBQ sauce that you love and just generously douse the pork in that. EASY EASY EASY!!!

BTW, salivating just a bit right now...

I usually cook it with a can of beer or bottle of beer. The alcohol cooks off and just leaves flavor. Once it's cooked, I take it out and shred it. Then I cover the shredded pork with BBQ sauce...I like Jack Stack or Sweet Baby Rays.

Liquid smoke!!! add 1 tsp optional..add to original recipe..

I cook it on low for about 6 hours for a 3 lb.. so 4 lb 7 to 8 hours. Then shred and add the sauce and cook on low for another hour or 2..

Be sure to use a crock pot liner. makes clean up so much easier.

At the bottom of the crock pot lace 1 sliced large white onion, then grate 3 or 4 carrots and place on top of onions, place the salt and peppered pork on top, add 1/3 cup of water, place the lid on and let it cook

When you pull it, dump some of the liquid.. it is mostly fat at this point.. and then pour on your favorite BBQ sauce if you want.. then let that stay on warm till you get home from the recital.

Serve with sliced white onions, sliced pickles on the bun, then add the meat

I have to jump on board with the root beer recipe! I just made some the other day! All I do is literally put in the meat, a bottle or two of root beer and cook it on high for 8 hours. Then shred it with two forks, which is super easy at this point, mix in one bottle of BBQ sauce, whichever you love, then have another on hand for topping off. It's awesome and always gets rave reviews. it's by far the easiest dinner I make! ;)

3 tablespoons Barbecue Seasoning
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Mustard
now mind you I never really have to "pull" the pork because after 8 hrs on low in the slow cooker it does it all by itself!

I have some tips:

Pre heat the crock pot before putting your meat in it
Place the meat FAT SIDE down ... it will melt the fat faster and speed up cooking process, make it more tender.
Do not begin to pull the pork until it is READY either.

Can I come? LOL

What I do is use bottled Sweet Baby Ray's or Jack Daniels sauce--whatever you normally like (Kraft is gross though!) but ADD about a cup of apricot preserves....YUM-O!

(Don't forget to put a few quartered onions in with the meat.)

I just drop it in the crock pot with a cup of coffee, a couple cups of beef broth, some salt/pepper and let it go. When it is done, I pull it. You could put whatever sauce you prefer on it and toss it, but my husband prefers to add his own sauce on the sauceless meat, so I just put various BBQ sauces on the table/buffet line.

I cook mine on low for 7 hours or more.

I do pulled pork on my smoker so I don't have a crockpot recipe.

However, allrecipes.com has numerous pulled pork recipes. I would recommend trying them. You can read the reviews and suggestions from those that have tried the listed recipes.

Hope you have a nice time. Good luck to you and yours.

I take a pork shoulder or butt. Put some salt and pepper on it. Dump in a can of Root Beer and cook 8-10 hours on low. Hubby drains the sauce, shreds and we put on a bun with a little bbq sauce.

Best pulled pork I've ever had! (I'm not normally a pulled pork kinda person, but I really like this one!)

I use the McCormick seasoning mix. It's so good and so easy! You just add the mix, some vinegar and ketchup. My family can't get enough of it!
