Crib Bumpers - Milwaukee,WI

My son is 6 months old, he is constantly rolling in his crib hitting everything. It is safe to put the bumper pad back on the crib, he has gotten his little legs and arms stuck in the slats of the crib.
Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I know he may get caught up in the rails of the crib but it would be so much worse having him get caught up in the bumber and suffercate. I would just keep it out.

You should absolutely take the crib bumper out. I know they are so cute, but when a child is in a deep sleep, they will not wake up if their head gets under there and they can't breath. I never tried the breathable bumpers, but I have heard people like them. I think safety needs to be your first priority. My son got his legs stuck a lot at first, but quickly learned how to take care of this himself or got big enough that they didn't fit.

My son is 6 months also and I find him playing with his bumper pad. As a childcare provider, we are not supposed to have one in there because of the dangers of suffocation, but they are so cute. I saw a Mom replied about a breathable bumper and that sounds like a great idea....it is more to protect them from putting arms and legs out them bumping their heads.

If you look online at target.com they have breathable bumpers and a crib shiel system which is mesh netting that goes over the sides of the crib so the baby can't get stuck and it is breathable too. hope this helps

Please be sure to use a breathable one. I know many people think their child is "old enough" to have a regular one but it has nothing to do with age or movement abilities. It has to do with where your child falls asleep. If they fall asleep with their face in a regular bumper they can suffocate because they are breathing their own air back in and aren't getting fresh oxygen.

We also have a breathable bumper and love it. Although, my son who is now 15 months has figured out how to get his legs through the slats above the bumper and gets them stuck. I do think he likes to sleep with his legs hanging out, just every once in a while he sticks them out to far. Good luck. I always feel so bad when I go and get him up and he has his leg stuck - and when it's fallen asleep it's the worst because he doesn't understand the horrible tingliness.

My son did the samething. I put the bumper back in. When I did I put it down farther. I Put it on then put the matress back it so it held the bumper down. it is only about 5 inches above the matress. It stops his feet and arms from getting stuck in the rails, and his big brother from tring to pull his legs out of the slats in the rails. When babies start rolling it is less likely for them to suffocate in the bumper. They start getting the reflex to move when they can't breath. Plus your baby will most likely start standing in the crib with in the next few months and sometimes they will stand on the bumper. if it is tucked down farther it doesn't give them as much hight.
