Crayons in the Washer

Can crayon stains be removed from clothes after they are washed and dried? On laundry day, I discovered while folding my clothes that my beloved seven year old son had an orange crayon in his pocket (the crayon completed a full laundry cycle). It is all over his school uniforms (red, blue, yellow shirts, and tan bottoms)not to mention my clothes too. I could just scream!!! I suppose this is my fault becasue I will admit I have got out of the habit of checking pockets (seeing that I passed on the responbility to my child since he is old enough to empty his own pockets). I always empty my pockets and never thought to check over him doing his own (I know now). Needless to say we have orange all over everthing. I am open to all suggestions.

What can I do next?

My mother-in-law washed my kids clothes with my clothes and they went through the dryer on medium. I washed them in hot and let them soak and the crayon came out. I guess it remelted the crayon. I don't know if I just got lucky or what, but I would say anything is worth a try. Good luck.

you can iron out the wax with a towel to absorb the wax but you still have to deal with the dye...good luck. maybe someone knows how to remove the dye.

Hi J.!!
This has happened to be as well.. and I hate to say it, but once they were my crayon stained clothes were put in the dryer, they set. Once you put stain clothes in the dryer, the stains dont hardly ever come out..well, not for me anyway..
um.. ive never tried this.. but I was told you can use that Dryll dryclean at home stuff, and it gets out stains really well. good luck!!! remember 7 year olds have short term memory loss.. lol... mine does!!

There is a product I've found called "Goo Gone" and it removes EVERYTHING! I've never used it on clothing but it says that you can. Check it out and if it doesn't work on that, you will have it for everything else!!

Hi,
Petsmart and Walmart have "Simple Solution"- find it in the pet section. It will say something like, gets pet stains out fast-it gets blood out of white shirts (dried on). I hope this works!

There is a product at most hardware stores called "Oops".
It works wonders. Recently, my 14 year old left chapstick in his pockets and I did not realize it until after I removed the clothes from the dryer. I applied the opps directly to the stain and rewashed the clothes.

Good Luck,

Hi Jaqueline. I have a suggestion you can try, but please pick your least favorite item and and/or an inconspicuous spot. In the past we've had a lot of success with WD-40 in getting out crayon from other items. I will admit I've never tried it on clothes. It is oil based, so it will break up the waxy crayon, but it will also leave an oily residue. You will need to rewash the stuff after you use it in hot water and detergent. It will take detergent to break up the oil.

We have used WD-40 to remove crayon, grafiti, and sometimes even permanent marker from chalkboards and other surfaces with great success. You always have to follow it with some form of detergent. On the chalkboards we used Joy dish detergent after it.

Also, it might be worth checking out www.ifi.org. That is the International Fabricare Institute, a professional drycleaners organization.

Good luck.

go in the dollar store or family dollar and look in the cleaning supply section for a solution called Awesome its in a clear bottle w/ red lettering on it . spray it on the stains u can if u want pretreat it w/ ur detergant along w/ the Awesome then just throw it in the washer. this stuff took out auto greese out of a whit shirt so im sure this should help
hope this works

I like a lot of the suggestions the others have given!! I'll have to remeber those if it happens to me!!! But I like a product called Desolve It. It is in the cleaning isle. It is great on marker, ink and greesy stuff. But use it sparlingly and test it first for color fastness cause it can fade color in the spot you sprayed it!! And also, if the crayon is in your dryer, try the MR. Clean Magic eraser!! I love that thing!!
