Cramping in Early Pregnancy-- Is This Normal?
Okay, so I pulled a muscle in my lower back on Saturday and am experiencing pain because of that, but I also feel like I am having mild cramping. I am 5-6 weeks pregnant today (going in for ultrasound next week to confirm dates), but I am a bit concerned because I don't remember this kind of cramping with my first pregnancy. Anyone experience something similar?
So What Happened?™
Thank you SOOOO much for all the helpful responses! I appreciate you all taking a few minutes to offer advice! According to my husband (why does he remember this better than I do?), I had the same cramping during my first pregnancy and was worried about it then, too. I did express concern at my doctor's appt last week, and am having an ultrasound next week for dates and to make sure everything is all right. Hopefully all is well and my back feels a lot better today! As for resting-- I have a VERY BUSY AND ACTIVE 2yo, so rest is sometimes next to impossible!

First of all, congratulations! And, second, I remember having a lot of cramping and being told it was completely normal as long as I didn't have bleeding along with it, my doctors didn't seem concerned. Hope that helps, but I would always talk to your OB/GYN with any concerns no matter how big or small. Take care. :) H.

I was the same way in the early stages of my second pregnancy. (Little guy is now 3 months.) I was also concerned as I didn't remember it with my first. My Ob said that as long as I wasn't bleeding, it was fine. Just the muscles stretching, pulling, etc. You may also be compensating for your back pain by using your abdominal muscles more which could make the cramping worse. I wouldn't worry too much as long as you're feeling ok and not bleeding.
Oh, BTW, Congratulations!

I had bad cramping with my son around that time...Yes it could be something serious if maybe your bleeding or having discharge but i didnt and the doctor told me that it was just my body getting ready for the baby and all the changes that come with it.. so for me it was normal... good luck and hope everything is ok!!!

I had major cramps during the first 2-5 weeks of my pregnancy. My doctor was concerned (the pain, at times, had me doubled over), but, when everything turned out OK (ultrasound & blood tests), he attributed it to implantation pain. I swear that zygote was diggin' a hole to China! Anyway, I know it's easier said than done, but, try not to worry about it. Focus instead on resting and healing your back! Obviously talk to your doctor about it next week, but, I'll bet it's implantation.

Hey E., I had cramping throughout the first trimester of both of my pregnancies. As long as the cramping doesn't become sever and you don't see any unusual discharge I wouldn't worry. You can always call your doctor if you feel concerned, and most likely they would preform an ultrasound to make sure everything is ok.
