I am 4.5 weeks pregnant and had a pelvic exam today, but no pap. Needless to say, it really hurt. I have been cramping ever since! Any experience with this? How long should it last? I am stressing cause I just miscarried in Sept.!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went to the OB because I just found out I am pregnant. She didn't do a pap because I had one in April.. My miscarriage was the first week in sept. and I have had a regular period since.

Why did you have a pelvic exam with no pap? Did you tell your doctor you were pregnant, or THINK you are because of a home test?
I just don't understand why a doc would do a pelvic exam before 9 to 12 weeks.
Please call your doctor with these questions, we are not medical professionals and have no access to your personal health history :-(

You miscarried in September and 4-8 weeks later you're 4 and 1/2 weeks pregnant? Perhaps that's why you had a pelvic exam? Of course, you need to ask your doctor about the cramping. This pregnancy is not a routine pregnancy. We do not have sufficient knowledge to know if this is important.

Talk to your doctor.
We have no way of knowing if the cramps will go away or if you are miscarrying again.
Some women have no difficulty in getting pregnant - but have great difficulty in Staying pregnant through the whole 9 months.
If it happens more than a few times, you might need to work with a fertility specialist - progesterone shots through the 1st trimester might help if low progesterone is an issue for you.

You must call your doctor today. Cramping can be from so many things, it's hard to know if it's normal or not. I'm sorry about your miscarriage - it's a difficult loss, and of course you are nervous. But you may be very sensitive with tender tissues since you got pregnant so soon after the miscarriage - it's hard to know what's going on. Get checked out. If you don't like your doctor, see another one, but don't sit home and stress. That's not good for you at all.

Hoping you've called your doctor by now...let us know! I know that some mild cramping is normal but given your history and that this is severe, I would not take any chances.
