Help we have officially hired our first babysitter for my two daughters. They are 5 and 3 and we usually get Grandma to babysit. I have no idea what to pay I have heard anywhere from 5 to 10 dollars. Please need help what do you typically pay your babysitter. We live in the northwest suburbs. Thanks

I pay my sitter $10 for watching our 3 1/2 years old twins. She drives to our house so I figure that's worth it. I have friends who pay $8 an hour but they pick up/drop off the sitter who is younger.I would negotiate it ahead of time . Oh, some sitters are better at playing with the kids so I would start low if the sitter is inexperienced . You can always give more as she gets older or has more responsibilites. I wish I would have given less initially because when you are gone for a longer period and the kids are sleeping you still have to pay the agreed amount. It adds up fast :)

I would say that $8.00 - $10.00/ hour is fair. My daughter is 14 and, amazingly gets less than that (around $6.00) but she just entered high school. Her salary has always been on the low side. Dad and I have started encouraging her to raise her rates but she loves the kids that she babysits for and I think she's a little stuck in what she can charge because people have cut back on babysitting needs.

I cannot even fathom getting $20.00 in the 'burbs for an occasional babysitting job. Who can afford to go out???

Good luck.

$8-10/hr is the current going rate. If she has a ton of experience, she may want up to $12.

$8-10/hour for two kids, depending on the babysitter's experience.

We are in Naperville and pay our sitters 10/hr. If you are going out in the evening really you shouldn't have to pay more since your kids will be in bed a good part of the time.

We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. We pay $15/hr. For two kids, I'm pretty sure the going rate is around $15/hr... some people pay $20/hr for 2 kids...
