well, to keep my son from getting constipated i try to give him at LEAST 4 ozs of juice a day. apple/prune works best, OR just see if she will eat a prune.

She is old enough for the apple juice but be careful. Apple juice is very rich in Natural sugars and the acid and sugar can cause other diaper problems like a rash. The answer is to add more fiber rich foods in her diet. Give her some brown rice to pick at. My daughter would constantly have a bowel movement almost immediately after feeding her oatmeal. You can put honey in it or sprinkle it with cinnamon and a little maple syrup. Make sure she is getting plenty of vegetables. This should solve the problem.

I have heard a lot about juices and then having UTIs. Please lay off juice. even now I would heavily dilute juices. My daughter is over 2 and she use to have problems with not having bowel movements when she was first born. After she was 6 months old I started monitoring what she ate like fresh veggies and brown rice cereal and it really does help. Please try this before putting your baby on laxitives and enemas.

As long as the apple juice works I would stick with it.

You may want to try getting some more fiber rich foods into her diet. That should help keep her bm's regular.

Try these, my 4-year-olds love them and don't even know how good they are for them. Add one small can of pumpkin to one box of Devils Food cake mix. That's all you add. Then fill muffin tins, bake at 350 until done (approx. 13 min). Pumpkin is very high in fiber which will loosen them up. My girl's love their chocolate muffins!

my daughter did and still does get constipated and has little pebbles. There's a few things you can do. Try prunes, they may work, but can also give gas or cause cramping so try not to over-do it. Mineral Oil in her juice will help, but don't give it to her at meal time, wait a few hours. What my daughter uses is Miralax, it was prescription but is not over the counter. It's sort of trial and error on what they need. The directions my Dr gave me was to use it daily, but that was too much, so I just used it in her drink a few times a week and only used about 1/4 of what the directions said. So, most everything is trial and error depending on your child, so start with what the directions say or what the pharmacists suggest and go from there.

good luck

Please do not ignore this, your daughters body is telling you somethings wrong, with my oldest she was always constipated and I tried everything to help, finally when she cried because it hurt so bad when she was going and she was also having very frequent UTIs I got the opnion of another doc who put her on muralax. She was so backed up that it was actually putting pressure on her bladder causing urine to run back up through her kidneys causing infection, all this before the age of 3. It took almost a year to get her going on a reg basis and ween her off the meds but now she doing really good. I still limit her dairy though. Not trying to scare you but I hope sharing my story help prevent your baby from going through what mine did.

Hey T.! Since your baby is older giving her a little DILUTED PRUNE JUICE is a good option, however because juice is really full of empty calories and not alot of nutrition I would say consider adding FIBER rich foods to her diet.

Another suggest - the NATURAL APPROACH to baby care - we take our daughter to the CHIROPRACTOR. She is almost 5 months old and has had around 3 adjustments. They have really helped too and it's completely safe. My sister has also taken her baby, same age, to the chiropractor twice. She was having trouble with her bowel movements & she had a bowel movement the same day of her adjustment.

These are just suggestions. I think it's always best to do what's natural. Good luck! Happy Mother's Day!! :)

Apple juice really does not help constipation. Pear juice does, however. My son does this sometimes. I think it's probably normal and nothing to worry about.

Give your girl babies magic tea no matter how old she is. This is organic tea blend with no preservatives and I am using this tea since my baby's first week of birth. He never had tummy issues after that.

She needs tons of water. Call the pediatrician for advice but... My doc told me to make sure my son got water each day. Water will help her have a BM. You might need to offer it to her several times a day. I still give my little guy (34 months) sippy cups full of half juice and half water. Also since she's older prunes work wonders. My son loves them and considers them a treat.

My daughter had this problem. We gave her apple juice, with a ton of water in it. To the apple juice, we added powdered magnesium- yes, like calcium and magnesium. Recent studies have shown we have an over balance of calcium, and need to add more magnesium to our diets. If she is drinking a lot of milk, she might have a magnesium imbalance. The magnesium really helped.

I am going through this with my little girl right now. Does she complain when she has a bowel movement that it hurts? How long has this been happening? i finally took my daughter to her pediatrician and they gave her a laxative and stool softener for her to take daily until it clears up. We also have an appnt with a pediatrician GI to make sure there are no serious problems. There are many different things you can do, but I heavily suggest you talk to her dr before you do them. I don't think it would hurt anything to move to prune juice. I have done this in the past and it helped her. They have a laxitive called muralax that is over the counter and can be used on babies. There are also baby enemas, but believe me you don't not want to do one unles she has had no movements for at least 3 days. No pebbles, nothing.
Hope this helps! I believe Children's hospital has a nurse that you can call and ask any questions about it. hopefully our girls will even out soon!
