Conceiving Again After Etopic Pregnancy

Hi ladies. Here's the long story short...my husband and I recently did another IVF cycle (we have one daughter from a previous cycle). Won't know for sure until tomorrow, but my doctor believes I may have an etopic pregnancy because of the numbers (very low to start and have now risen slightly). If my numbers go up tomorrow, they are going to treat me with methotrexate to stop it. I guess my question is, have any of you had a healthy pregnancy after an etopic one?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your positive input and kind words. Luckily, my last bloodwork revealed that my numbers went all the way down to zero and there was no longer any indication of pregnancy. An ultrasound revealed nothing, so the doctor said either it was a regular pregnancy and I miscarried on my own or it was etopic and ended on its own. Either way, we are looking forward to our next attempt and an opportunity to give our daughter a sister or brother! Better things ahead I hope. Thanks again for all your kind words. Much Appreciated! xoxo

I'm sorry you are going through all this. I assume your doctor will do an ultrasound to see if it's ectopic as opposed to just relying on numbers...

in any event, a close friend of mine had an ectopic pregnancy and went on to have 3 more children!

First - I'm sorry for your loss - but I have some good news. YES!!!! I had an ectopic pregnancy in August 2008. I got the mehtotrexate shot and then got pregnant again in December 2008. I delivered our son on August 7, 2009! He was about 5 weeks early - had jaundice and low blood sugar. But 72 hours under the glow worm lights and mamas milk got him going on the right track. He is now 14 months old and walking all over the place.

Dear J.,
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I had an ectopic pregnancy from an IVF cycle in 2005, and I found it difficult to recover from emotionally -- it was my first pregnancy. The doctor was suspicious because of the low numbers, but the ectopic was ultimately diagnosed by a high-quality ultrasound. I had to have surgery to end the pregnancy, and the doctor removed the tube in the process (it was already scarred from endometriosis, which my doctor thought might have had an effect on why the embryo implanted there).

My next IVF cycle did not result in pregnancy, but the next one after *that* did -- I gave birth to perfectly healthy twin daughters in 2006. So it can definitely happen!! Good luck and take care of yourself,
A.
