How old are the kids?

I grew-up in Virginia, and those are all great places to go. You may be hit or miss on the weather. You might want to see what the average temperatures are for the week you're looking to be there. Though Virginia is generally warmer than IL, riding a cool rollercoaster on a cold day could be tough.

Williamsburg, alone, could take a couple of days depending on how into the kids want to be. Be prepared to walk a lot. Depending on if you drive or fly, I'd always recommend areas such as Charlottesville (Monticello and University of Virginia), Lurray Caverns, Virginia Beach, even Northern Virginia for Mount Vernon and the DC area.

My husband and I took a vacation there (and to see my family) over the course of 5 days several years ago and were able to take a lot of stuff in - with small kids, it may be tougher.

At 2 and almost 4, our kids enjoyed the recent trip to see my family in the DC area a lot less than we thought they would.

My kids are 9, 12 and 15. Busch Gardens takes us all day. We go every year. It has been well worth every penny for the last three years. Any younger and the kids would have been really too small.
The shows are fantastic so be sure to catch some of them. THe 4D Sesame Street show is stupid, even my then 8 year old thought so. Corkscrew Hill is a lot of fun. It is also 4D.
Williamsburg took us two days. It is geared more for the 4th grade adn above. THey will see how wigs are made and the old furniture among other handicrafts .. There are usually mock speeches.
VA is cool in March. We have had to wear coats at Spring Break. THe water rides would be very chilly I think in March.
I have not been to Asateague.
Also if you have a teen the College of William and Mary is there. So you could take a side trip to see that too.

We went to Assateague Island and camped there. The ponies came into our campsite during the night to see if we left any treats out for them. We saw a LOT of ponies. If you go and like to camp, I would recommend camping on the island. It is magical!

There is also an incredible amount of birds and other wildlife! I hope you enjoy your trip!

Hi, I used to live in MD. I have been to Assasteague Island and many of my friends/relatives have been as well. We saw ponies (they literally were five feet from our car) and I actually have never had any of my friends NOT see the ponies. It is an amazing experience. Go if you can.

We went to Colonial Williamsburg last summer my kids we 10, 8, and 3. They LOVED IT. Went for 2 days. Make sure you spend one morning doing the re-inactment part. We skipped the Busch Gardens due my 3 year old (and my boys didn't know about it). I think they have a pass where you can do all 3.
