Colic Tablets

Hi,
My soon to be 7 week old son has recently started screaming uncontrollably at night. It starts most nights around 9p and last until 3am! I'm exhausted. Our pediatrician thinks he has colic since he is otherwise a happy baby in the day and he eats well etc...
I've tried everything to get him to calm down and nothing works :(
It breaks my heart to watch him lie in his crib and scream on and on...
A friend of mine gave me these "Colic Tablets" made by Hylands which she found at Long's Drugstore. They say they are 100% natural and off symptomatic relief for colic in children. Has anyone used these before? Did they work?
Would love to hear from any moms that have used these pills and other moms who have dealt with colic and if anything worked for their babies.
Thanks a bunch!

What can I do next?

I didn't try the colic tablets, but I too used Gripe water. It worked wonders. It is available in some stores now, Longs Drugs carries it. An earlier post says it only stores for a week once opened, but I think it is something like six weeks. In any case, we generally used the majority of the bottle by the time we needed to toss it. Our pediatrician recommended it also, which made me feel better about using it than the tablets. The other things that worked for us were tightly swaddling with a white noise machine in a dark room and rocking in exaggerated movements from side to side. Also, my daughter did better at night when we put a wedge under the head of her crib to put her on an angle. Hope this helps.

I tried them with my son... they did not work at all. I have been using the teething tablets for my son now and they seem to work well. The colic tablets are worth a try though. Some say they work really well. Someone suggested trying Gripe Water. It is another kind of oral drop that some moms swear by. Anything is worth a try when a baby needs you so much and is so upset.

Wishing you the best. I hope your little one lets you rest soon.

I used Gripe Water with my now 4 yr old. So - admittedly it's been a while. But I LOVED it. It worked really really well for her. I could see that she felt better, almost instantly. The product has ginger and fennel in it, which are supposed to be medicinal. The only down side is that once opened, the product does not have a long shelf life. If you've opened the bottle, it doesn't last more than a week. Which, when you have a screaming baby, can be dramatic trying to figure out when you opened the bottle, and is it going to work. I used to write the date on the bottle when I opened it, so I'd know immediately.

The other downside is that I only found it online. So, I use to buy it by the half dozen. But I'd buy a bottle first just to try it. Best of luck!

Hello there T.! I have not used the Hylands colic tablets but have used the Hylands teething tablets. They worked great for teething! I loved the fact that they are all natural and in fact they don't taste bad either. They dissolve right on the tongue and work fast. I would assume it would be the same with the colic tablets. I hope this eases your fears about using the Hylands brand and just remember that colic will pass and HANG IN THERE!!

Colic Tablets do not truly work. I have four kids and only the first had severe colic. It is from what you are eating if you are breastfeeding the baby. Anything that will give you gas, gives the baby gas, which is turns makes his intestines and stomach very tight. My son used to scream from 4pm-11pm, so I feel for you. There is truly nothing that you can. There are several things that you can try. Lay your baby on your forearm face down. This puts pressure on the stomach and sometimes stops. Hold your baby over your shoulder with the stomach resting on your shoulder bone. Try the tablets, if you feel at your last resort, they might work. Just hold your baby don't leave your baby in the crib to cry. I know that you are truly exhausted, but remember, it is only for a short time and you need to comfort. When the baby sleeps during the day, please, please take a nap with your baby. Try it for yourself first. The only reason I say this is because when my first was teething, I was using oragel for babys on his gums. I was wondering why he was drolling more, it was because when I tried it on myself, my tongue went numb and my throat when numb. I immediately stopped giving it to him and just rubbed his gums with very ice cold water. That worked much better. Good Luck! Remember hold your baby and it does only last for about 3 months, sometimes less. C.

We never tried colic tablets, but we used mylicon drops which the doctor recommended for our daughter when she was an infant and we are still using them on our third child now.

I didn't use the colic tablets. I used Mylicon for the gas and Hyland's teething tablets. they both work. For the gas-- I did baby massage to relax him and he was able to pass gass with my help. Also, I stayed away from foods that made me gassy, too. This way, when I was breastfeeding, he woudn't be affected by the milk as much. Try baby massage if you can.

I've already used nearly all things to soothe my child from colic but except baby magic tea, nothing worked.
