I noticed on Friday afternoon after returning from daycare that my 2 yr old had a sore on the corner of his mouth. I know it is a cold sore cause I have had my share which I haven't had in a long time(Thank Goodness) Do any mothers out there know if a medication I can put on him that is safe for a 2 yr old.

Thank you in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks again for the Great advice, I finally heard back from my pedi and they suggested neosporin medicated. Hopefully this will clear it up.

Thanks again

You may call your pedi and see if you can get a prescription for Valtrex. I am not sure if your little one is to little, but it is worth a try. I take it when I see one coming on and it cuts the time it is there in half or more. My mom used to out powdered allum on a sppon with a little bit of water and then put it on my lip. You can get powdered allum in the spice aisle at the grocery store. I am not sure if it made a difference in the cold sore but it suppose to dry it up. Good luck, poor little baby!

I have been getting cold sores forever, and I know how uncomfortable they can be. My doctor always gave me prescription medication - I can't remember the name of it.

About 2 years ago, I heard about something called L-Lysine - it's an amino acid that the body doesn't produce naturally, but if you take it, it can keep you from getting cold sores. I've been taking it for 2 years and I haven't had one since. I don't know if it's okay for a child, but you could try asking.

Hi M.! My daughter gets cold sores alot in the colder weather. I use a product that is all natural, safe and you don't need a prescription. It works great - it's usually cleared up in a few days, the earlier you catch it, the faster it heals.

Ask your doctor how much L-Lysine a 2 year old can have. The stuff is amazing. On the occassion that we get one, which only happens when we don't take the lysine for a few days, it clears it up soooooo much faster, 3-5 days verses 1-2 weeks.

You might want to call your pediatrician to check it out. It might be Hand Foot Mouth disease which is VERY common in daycare. My daughter got it at about 11 months.
