Hi,

I have a super tall and skinny 2 year old and, today since it is colder, I have just discovered that all the pants I bought him are either too short or too loose. Is there a certain brand for boys that is cut longer and slimmer? He is still in diapers and there was no problem in with shorts since he can still wear 18 mos, but he is either loosing his pants or waiting for a flood!!! Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions!! I did go get my son a bunch of pants with the adjustable waist tabs. Since we are starting in the potty training arena, the belt idea, though really good, wouldn't have worked out. Thanks again for all the info and suggestions. You guys are really great.

My son is also tall for his age. I have discovered at target they have a brand of jeans that have an adjustable waist. They dont look goofy either. They have elastic with button holes on the inside of the waist band so they can be adjusted. I think they are made by cherokee.

JC Penny's and Sear both sell slims. Old Nvay and some target and walmart jeans as well have an elastic cincher inside the waistband to shrink the panta a bit. My son is super skinny as well. I have to buy him the pants for his age, but with the waistband trimmer in them. A belt works too for any pants that you already have.

Hi K.. I am having the same problem. My son is 14.5 mo and he is so tall and skinny, I have a problem with his pants. Shorts are ok because you don't do the length. He still wears 3-6 mo shorts and they are falling off him. In order to get the length he needs, I have to buy 12-18 mo pants. Then he has to wear a belt to keep them up. I have found that Old Navy jeans fit him the best. This is the second year that I am using Old Navy jeans for him and I love them. Give them a try.

My 1 year old has the same problem, but she is a girl. However, just in case I just found jeans at The childrens Place they are long enough and the have a stretch band in the back to fit the skinny little girls. Good luck they may be just as good with boys.

Old Navy, The Gap and The Children's Place all have pants with 'waist adjusters' inside - basically elastic with buttons on them so you can make the waistband as small as you need.

I have 3 tall, skinny kids so I know what it's like!

I carry a line of clothing in my boutique that sounds like what you are looking for for your long lean child :) . It is 100% organic too! If you are interested in having a look here is the link. http://www.abbabyboutique.com/catalog.php?category=17

The chocolate straight legged pant or track suit would work for a boy if you like them that is. All of the items in that section run long and are super soft and compfy. Nothing like pure organic cotton!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

My son has always had the same problem. He is 8 now and he is still tall and skinny. I found some great pants at Target. They come in all sizes....from babies to young men. The inside of the waistline has an elastic band that has button holes on it. When you get it to the correct waist size you loop it on the button inside the waistline of the pants. If they grow in the waist you just loosen it a few notches. They come in jeans and khakis. The brand is Cherokee. Hope this helps. Good luck.

My three year old has the same problem!! The only pants I have found that come in slim and tall sizes are at sears, also you might look for pants that have the adjustable waist band built into them! There is a piece of elastic and a button inside the pants, one on either side, the elastic has button holes at different intervals so you can tighten or loosen them as needed! Kind of like a built in belt! I have found these at Target, JcPenney, Old Navy, Sears, Carters, Children's Place etc!! Hope this helps! Also, my son is 3 1/2 now, I have a lot of jeans and pants that he has outgrown if you're interested I can email you some pics!

i dont know if they have them for boys, but my 6yr old daughter has always had the same problem. the new kids clothes are soming out almost like maternity, they have little buttons on each side with an elastic so you can adjust them to their waist size, but keep your length. i think we just got them at walmart, and i got a skirt at The Childrens Place. Just take a closer look when you are out shopping, they arent that hard to find anymore. good luck!

The Gap as well as Gap Outlet makes pants with elastic adjustable waistbands in them. You simply adjust the waist with buttons on the elastic. This is great since you can get more wear out of the pants! I have a tall skinny daughter that I have to buy a size big for her height, so these work great. They are also wonderful for shorts since you just buy a size bigger and adjust the waist tightly-that way you can get more wear for the price!

They now make pants with adjustable waists, it is the same button/elastic system used in maternity clothing. So far I have purchased these type of pants from Gap and Levi, although I am sure other companies are doing this as well.

My son is 18 months and he also is really tall. I love the website gissybella.com, they sell adorable pants and the pants also have an adjustable waist so my son's pants don't fall off. Good luck!

K.,
I have the same issue and am sewing darts in their clothing! Levi and OshKosh both make a jean that has an adjustable waist. (It reminds me of a pair of maternity pants I used to have where you pulled the elastic and fastened it on a hidden button.) I have found these at Marshalls, Ross, and Osh Kosh.
Good luck! I have two of them with this problem! Hopefully the little one will continue since all the hand me downs will be small in the waist!
