My duaghter is 19 months old. She is tall and thin- She weighs about 20 pounds. Most pants fall off of her.. Does anyone have a recommendation of a clothing brand that fits skinny kids better? It seems like childrens place runs a bit smaller than some brands.

What can I do next?

I also have a tall and thin little girl. I tried different styles. For example Gymboree has a lot of rompers they were long enough and since they are all in one the waist didn't matter. I also liked gymboree's leggings. Summer is so much easier she just wore smaller shorts and dresses or shortalls.

I have a son that is really thin and Levi's slims work really well for him. He can wear 2T shorts but he needs the 5 slim for jeans for the length. Levi's make some really cute little girl jeans.

Dear Lisa

I used children safety pins for the waist . Sometimes stitched it. You can open if it becomes tight. But in Sears we got slim jeans when she was 4-5.

Hi Lisa~
Don't know if it will help, but I'll tell you what I do for my scrubs if you haven't already done it. I can't stand the scrubs that tie at the waist, but I prefer the fit overall. So, I make a slit in the waistband, pull out the strings and replace it with elastic. Just a few stitches in the elastic and it snaps back into the slit and problem solved! It's also very easy to add elastic to regular kids pants, even if you don't sew much. Measure and cut a scrap piece of fabric the same width/length as the waistband. Sew the top and bottom of the fabric to the waist of the pants (inside) to make a tunnel that you can slip elastic through. Stretch the elastic some and secure the ends behind the button on one side and behind the loop on the other and the waist will fit tighter. Oh, by the way, I am NOT the sewing my own clothes type, so this is truly simple...if I can do it, anyone can!! :)
Good luck!

Children's Place and Old Navy are great, b/c their pants are adjustable in the waist now. We have the same problem with our 3 yr old son. He's so skinny but average height. I find those brands to work the best.

Good luck!

Target has a brand of pants that have adjustable waist bands. They work great! I have two kids that are tall for their ages, but skinny for the size they have to wear, and these have been a wonderful find.

We have the same problem with our son. He's "techincally" in a 4T when it comes to pants & the length, but they simply fall off of him. In the summer since the length of shorts doesn't matter much, I buy him 2T so the waist will fit. I have found that GAP and Childrens Place make a few pants with an adjustable waist band (elastic w/ buttons on the inside of the waist band). Those are great, but there aren't many styles. Otherwise, I opt for a snug elastic waist (athletic wind pants, jogging pants, etc.) Osh Kosh seems to have nice snug waist bands in their athletic pants.

Best of luck to you, and let us know if you find any great brands as we could sure use some ideas too!

My 4 year old only weighs 32 pounds. I went to children place and their 5 t jeans fit him perfect, and they are only 2 pairs for $22. I also found that carters ran a little smaller as well. But they are a little shorter than other brand, so it depends on her height. I hope this helped. If you find any other brands that run smaller, please let me know. Thank you.

My daughter is 3 and weighs 24 lbs, I understand! Target Cherokee brand Jeans have adjustable waistbands inside the jeans, you can't always find them, but when they do have them I stock up! (They are usually folded on the display tables) Also, Old Navy has the adjustable waistbands as well, but I find the length doesn't always work right! Hope this helps

Hi Lisa,
My son was a preemie, and now even though he's 4, he's just over 30 lbs. so finding pants that stay up have always been a battle!
When he was younger I dressed him a lot in overall style pants and I've found that the baby GAP clothes run much smaller than most. I always buy the pants with the adjustable elastic band inside, wears a belt when possible and I usually go down a size and there still not too short. And you could gather the back of her pants, sew a quick couple loops through to tighten the waist.

Good luck :)

Lisa, I have the same issue with my 12 month old. Childrens Place is the only pants that fit her around the waist. Gap has some adjustable waste pants try online. I know it is really hard when they are 2t and under to find them it is so fusterating Some of the Target stuff fit her too but it depends on the out fit. Good Luck, M.

Target is carrying these new cute capri rollup pants by cherokee. Brilliant! They have an adjustable waist. Kind of like maternity pants, you can tighten the inside elastic, and they can go very tight. We got some purples ones, and we are headed back to stock up on different colors.
My daughter is only two and a half, 26 pounds, no butt, however she just had a recent growth spurt, so the crotch no longer fits on her 18 mo. clothes, but 24 mo. or 2t just swims on her. So these pants were a life saver.

Lisa
I have the exact same problem! My daughter was 18 months old before I could turn her car seat around because it took her that long to hit 20 lbs! She is now almost 2 1/2 and it's not gotten much better - she's still thin as a rail.
Unfortunatly, I've not yet found a particular brand of clothes that are smaller than others. Mostly I have to make sure it has elastic in the waist and even then I have to roll the waist over. In addition, even though she was 75th percentile for height she can still fit into a lot of her 18 month old stuff.

My niece has this issue as well! My sister-in-law buys her some of the adjustable waist band clothing from Gymboree and I also know that Lands' End has adjustable waist bands and clothes for skinnier kids. Good luck!

My daughter is the same way. I usually gets her the Old Navy brand because it has the adjustable band in the pants. But any pants that have the ujustable bands in it would be great.

Levi's, old navy are good ones. I have a son who is 6 and has the same problem. He has been skinny since birth and those are the only brands I could buy that did not fall off of him. Kohl's has some good deal . Also look for preemies. that is another thing we had to do. I hope this helps you some. Have a great day.

My daughter was only 21 pounds when she turned 2 so we had that problem too. The Target brand jeans (Circo?) fit her well, so did Cherokee and Levi jeans. We haven't tried Children's Place jeans but since everyone recommended them I think we will!

I buy circo brand pants from target. They often have adjustable elastic bands as well and they are fairly cheap. It is so hard, once that diaper is gone, to keep those pants up!! :)

I like Childrens place for my son and now that he is over 2 they have an adjustable band in the jeans to make adjustments easy. It was harder to find them in the smaller sizes.
Good luck,
