My 10wk old son is on a heart monitor. He was born 6wks early, and is having some problems. My question is what can I do to his clothing to allow for the lead cords (wires that hook him to the monitor) that will not permanently damage the clothing? I am trying to use as many button down things as possible just to stay away from this, but inevitably I am running into the issue of zip up sleepers etc... Has anyone been through this...what can I do? I don't want to wreck the clothing because I would like to use it again if we have another child. Am I just fighting a losing battle? Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
My daughter had to find 2-piece outfits for her premie. Harder to find but second-hand stores are a possiblity. Undershirts instead of onesies etc. Or else we ran the cords around to the front and out the snap-opening. The zipper ones are pretty impossible unless you want to make an opening and hem it down.

Congratulaions on your little guy! My Goddaughter was a premie and was hooked up to an apnea monitor for a couple of months.
I hate to say it but you may be fighting a lossing battle. My friend made sure that everyone made sure that everyone knew that the girls (she is a tripplet) could only wear button/snap down clothing until they were off the monitors. You could try wrapping the leads around to his back and run them up through the neck of the zip up pj's.

Congratulations on your little guy. My grandson didn't have a heart monitor, but he had a feeding tube until he was 3 1/2. I did find snap up pjs all the way through, you just have to really look. ElderBerman was where I found them, and thats with looking weekly. I'd buy them all up when they got the shipment in, just to make it through, with continuous feeds through the night, he'd soak through and sometimes it would come unhooked and the feeds would leak, yuck. The clothes, you'll get used to working the tubes and wires through in no time, trust me on it. Good luck:)
my sister had some zip up sleepers. she made a small cut in the seam. if you do it in the seam, you can always fix it later.
This was a challenge in the winter because most of the clothing is zip up. My little guy was 13 weeks early and on the monitors for quite a while. I would put a small hole in the seam of the toe of the feet pj's but mostly tried to stick with the snap up outfits. I also made sure everyone knew this if they were getting things for him for Christmas. If you're concerned about him not being warm enough I highly recommend legwarmers for babies (if you can find them small enough - try Target).

I have found button down sleepers of all sizes at Babies "R" Us. I have also found them at second hand stores such as Salvation Army. Best of luck and I will keep you and the family in my prayers for you little one.
My son was 10wks early and also on monitors. I ran the cords around to his back and up though the neck of his sleepers. If he had on a oneis and pants I put the cords either down his leg or through the leg on the oneis and out the top of the pants.

I understand wanting to save your clothes for the next one, I have saved a LOT of money with hand me downs. They do however make sleepers that do button, I know Targets sells zip up ones, but I do think I got some sleepers at Babies R Us that snapped up. They were not the warm winter ones, just normal everyday sleepers, but they did snap. Also I believe that my mom bought me a bunch of snap ones from Khols. I'm sure if you look around, even online you will be able to find some that snap and not just zip.

Our little boy was in the hospital on monitors when he was 1-- quite a bit older, but I thought I'd chip in in case it's of help. I used a lot of two-piece pajamas, then ran the monitor through the pants leg and out of the back. They sell those long-sleeve kimono-style tee shirts, which worked well, then socks on his feet. We went a size larger than what he wore at the time to accomodate the extra equipment, as our son was on a portable unit that was quite large. Good luck to you and your wonderful new baby!
