Hello-

I am about to start my second treatment of Clomid, and I was wondering for anyone who has taken it... how long does it take the medication to "work"? We have been trying to get pregnant since November. We started our first round of Clomid in April, and we got the results that it didn't work. Getting ready to start the whole process again, and we hope it works this time. Just wanted some advice on what we can do to help the process along a little bit. Any input is greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your words of encouragement. I am happy to say that we got the test results back and the Clomid did work for the ovulation part. I have missed a period now, and we are anxiously awaiting the results of a pregnancy test. Thank you all again for your responses.

Hi H.! I'm a mother of 2 beautiful girls ages 4.5 years and 15 months. When my husband and I decided to start having a family, we got pregnant with our first daughter instantly. When it came time for us to have a second, it was an entirely different story. I was diagnosed with PCOS, Polycystic Ovary Syndrom, and from the time I was diagnosed, it took us almost a year to get pregnant. I was started on some other medications for about 4 months and then went through 4 cycles of chlomid towards after that. It was a long process but it finally worked and I now have my beautiful baby girl to show for it!! I wish you luck and try not to get discouraged!

Hi H.!

I was on Clomid with my second daughter! It took about 2 1/2 months to get pregnant! There are many factors when getting pregnant, but just don't worry!! Take any stress that you have out of your life. That will have out with the clomid! Good Luck!

My sister and I both got pregnant the first month we used clomid. I did have the help of fertility specialists who monitored exactly when I was ovulating and then I had sex the two days after I ovulated. You don't need to have lots of sex, just make sure you have it for the 2 days after you ovulate. In the end, it is all about the quality of the eggs you release and some months are just better than others. It will happen. You are young. Just be patient and don't stress!

I got pregnant the very first time using Clomid. But the dr also gave me a shot of something ( I don't remember the name of it) that made my egg come down within 12 hours. It worked!
My son is now nearly 18 mo. old!

Is your dr monitoring you during your use of clomid? If so, you should know if it works fairly soon after you start taking it. Fertility is stressful, have you tried acupuncture? It really helps with getting pregnant, you can also go to the bookstore- their are tons of books out there that can help.
Good luck.

I was prescribed Clomid 2 different times from 2 different physicians. The first jerk gave me one cycle of Clomid and a shot of Progesterone (sp??). When that didn't work, he said to me "Well, I don't know what's wrong with you". We'd been trying for over 5 years at that time. I was crushed.

So, disheartened, I went back to my regular doc (saw the NP) and explained everything that had happened. She wanted me to talk with the doc. I didn't see what good it would do, but agreed to humor her.

Came back - talked to doc. Found out that doc #1 was not a fertility specialist as he claimed - just plain vanilla OB/GYN who liked to "dabble". My regular doc said that she usually prescribed 6 months of Clomid and then if that didn't work, we would look at other options. I agreed, knowing it wouldn't work.

I took the first month of Clomid and, surprise, I wasn't pregnant. I took the second month, and knowing that I wasn't going to get pregnant, got the refill. (Understand that at this time, we had been trying for 6.5 years) I knew that the 6 months was going to make no difference. So, I was beyond surprised when I found myself pregnant after the second month. Had to throw away the 3 month of Clomid.

Anyway, now that you've got my life story, the point is this: I had one cycle that didn't work. Several months later, I used it again and got pregnant on the second month. So, don't be upset that the first month didn't work - take a deep breath and try again. That's all I can suggest.

Good luck!!

Hello. I just completed my first month on clomid. The side effects for me were extreme. I reacted to the side effects instantly. Day one onwards I was an emotional wreck, crying uncontrollably for hours at a time. Noone in my household, including me expected such an extreme reaction to the medication. However, once I had completed my Day 5-9 I was back to normal. Now that we understand the effects it can have on me, should we need to go for round two next month we will all be more aware and sensitive. However, having said that,it does not deter us from taking the medication as we have heard plenty of success stories. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for two years now. We have a beautiful 5 year old daugher Maya Marie, but the second time around it was not happening with the same ease as it did the first time. Good luck to you and I hope it works for you and me.
