Cleaning Your Computer Tower

I was cleaning my desk this morning, long overdue by the way, and looked at the layers of dust on the computer tower. How do you clean your tower, both the inside and outside? I usually just dust mine off, and use a toothpick to clean the crevices. Do you use a special electronics cleaner? Do you use the canned air to get rid of dust inside?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies, guess I will get some canned air to keep it running better.

A couple times a year my husband will take the side cover off and use canned air to get all the dust out. We have birds, so we're always amazed at the dust and feathers that come out. ha ha...

I do the same as you do. Also turn off the computer and use the crevice tool externally on the fan and other holes (slots, etc.) to suck the dust out.

When I clean my computer - I use the computer vacuum so I don't shove the dust inside the computer and on the components.

I use the compressed air to clean the key board then wipe it down with a papertowel that has alcohol on it.

if you are going to open your computer - ensure that it is shut off and you use the compressed air to clean it!

Canned Air. Or if you have a power air pump that works too. Just make sure you are careful to not use either too close to the actual hardware.

We use canned air and take the tower apart every so often to check for cat hair (my husband's fool of a cat sits on the tower and gets his tail sucked into the fan from time to time).

I would definantly use canned air to get rid of the dust inside. Wet something soft like a cleaning cloth and wipe it down. Do not get the crevices wet. Blow the canned air in the crevices. Good luck

I use a dustbuster, canned air and a dry or very lightly damp cloth only on the outside. If you open up the tower, the dustbuster and a dry cloth work well in there. Make sure to unplug your computer as well, not just turn it off since that will break the remaining electrical current.

Focus on the fan because when that gets blocked it can overheat your system and it does collect a lot of dust there as well.
